That a 4 year old been backed 5 or 6 weeks and was now junmping 2' 6" and had been to 3 jumping comps already, was doing too much too soon?

personally yes, and would want to have the horse going well on flat 1st and doing some ground pole work and possibly (just to try out) a small cross pole or upright but nothing major so soon no.

Yes, far too much IMO
As Merlywerly says, I'd want to see the horse going really well on the flat first, building up the fitness and working with poles well etc, before I even considered jumping.

Yes....and I'd be worried about the shortcuts taken, and methods used to get him doing all that in a short space of time.

Yes far too soon. My 4 year old is getting backed in a few weeks and she won't be doing any jumping comps until next year but then I'm in no rush to start jumping her anyway, I want her flatwork established first and lots of hacking. Essentially I her to enjoy her work and not feel overwhelmed.

Thanks, my thoughts too, just beginning to get an idea of the, possibly, rushed start my youngster had, based on what,s happening to this one, (if that makes any sense!! )
