to be schooled?

it was one possibility i had when i was searching for horses.... to buy and send away to be brought on....

now i couldnt do it as im terrified of someone b!llsing her up....but i would have someone come to me to school her for me....

anyone have any idea how much that would cost??? to teach her to canter properly for me and to work on her walk/trot....??

i would consider reccomended people from here (was there someone who turned around an unbreakable horse??)....

soo.... would you send your horses away to be schooled/brought on - or do it all yourself???

Yes - I would, and I have done with 2 horses this year. One was to be started and backed, and the second was to be schooled, exercised and prepped to be sold. I have known the YO for years, and trust her and her staff implicitly to do the very best by my horses. Both of the horses have gained a great deal from going from our very quiet stables at home, onto a busy livery yard - especially the horse being broken in.

However, if you are looking to buy and then send it to be broken - I would look into how much you would be spending on having someone school / ride on a horse. It may be worth working how much you might spend, and then add that to your budget to buy a horse, and look for one that is slightly further on in its education if you don't want to do the early stages yourself.

When my boy was being broken in, I was paying £100 a week - that was full livery, feed, bedding, ridden 4 days a week and TO every day. My mare that has just been on their summer rate of £80 including being ridden 5 days a week.

But then I am in Cornwall - and I wouldn't have a clue what prices would be up with you :)

I plan to send my youngster away however its not too far so can pay visits etc and be hands on as well. In the past i paid someone i knew to school my other one and she charged me £10 a hr - this was a friend.

I have just been thinking about this weekend as my horse and i are having a few "setbacks"
ive decided against it - I want somoene to come and school us both together - most of his issues are my fault i will admit - I lack confidence - so need someone to school us both - ive looked at IH website - its nowhere near as expensive as i thought and i shall be contacting my local practitioner definiteley

I would love to send mines away but we have 'issues' so will be doing it myself. I've done it before years ago but this time it will be with the help of people on the yard who have sucessfully broken their own horses.

Yes, I have. I bought something that turned out to be unrideable (long story! ) He is currently with Janet George who I contacted via here. She is the person I think you are referring to as she and her team broke in the 'unbreakable spotty horse'. Am 100% convinced it was the right thing to do as he is now being ridden and coming on in leaps and bounds. Looking forward to getting him back! :)

Yes, I would but a lot depends on my situation. If I was going to be working with a trainer when the horse came back, just sending her off for work would be fine. But if I wasn't working with anyone, I'd want to be able to work with whoever I sent her to so I wouldn't mess up their work. If that makes any sense.

thanks all :)

id love to get someone in to me tbh and school her for me for a couple of weeks (paid professional not joe bloggs) rather than send her away,

i can do it myself and i am capable, but i think it wouldt hurt. I will be having lessons anyhow....

does anyone know the cost of someone coming to me and would it be beneficial to school her 5 times a week....?

Yes, my lad has also gone away today to Janet george place and can't wait to see what he comes back like.
Starbar is yours the black 8 yr old gelding? If so Olivier showed him to us as one of the ones being worked, he has fantastic leg action!! When trotting
