As title really

But would you also a) take a active part in the selling progress such as meeting new buyers, beening there for vetting, visiting your horse weekly

or

b) let the sales yard take charge of all that

However much I trusted the sales livery owners I would:-

a) give them a full written brief of the type of owner I felt would be suitable to buy my horse, also a list of its strengths as I see him, his weaknesses as I see him and also why I am sellling him. I would want any prospective owner to be aware of this so they can either brush it off, or take note.

b) I would explain that I wanted to meet prospective owners and visit their premises.

The advantages of sales livery is that it puts a distance between you and the new owners, so maximise it!! They can say things that you may not be comfortable saying (the owner wants an experienced rider/the owner believes this horse wont be capable of ..., etc).

Do make sure that you visit the prospective owner before any transaction, this is your last chance to do right by the horse, and if you don't it will live on your conscience long after you have forgotten about the financial side of the transaction.

I have a horse on a sales livery. I dont have any contact with them as I have complete trust in their ability to sell my horse. They have the facilities the knowledge and experience to produce this horse. If I could I would .do it myself, but I can not, so I dont bother them. If I thought a lot of this horse it would not be for sale, I trust them not to sell it to an idiot I have to add that they are good friends and will contact me when necessary.
