Would you separate them?

My 20 year old mare has come screaming in to season and is flirting outrageously with my 4 year old gelding. Gelding is trying to mount her and getting both barrels.

Bit worried about one of them getting injured. Would you separate them until she calms the flip down a bit? She's quite happy on her own for a few days, and my gelding would have my mini shetland for company.

Think I've probably answered my own question but interested in what others think.

Absolutely, not worth the risk of an accident to either horse.
A couple of years ago my mare came into season, she's a right tart, and the little old pony she shared a field with started mounting her.
He was in his twenties and had been out with mares and geldings all his life no problems but to be fair to him, there was no escaping my mare. We split them up for a few days and didn't have any more problems.

Thanks Chaps, you've confirmed how I was thinking. Will get them separated for a few days.

If he's showing tendencies to mount I would separate and never again have them together or allow any other mare in with the gelding. "Once a climber, always a climber".
