Hello

Again - long time no post (still lurking away though!) but need some advice now please :-)

Lyla had a fall on the road on Sunday :-( Luckily she just grazed her knees - yes it could have been a LOT worse.

So she's been resting since Sunday (normal routine out at night muzzled/in during the day with with soaked hay - she needs to get off the grass *sign*), was buted for a couple of days. Looks and seems ok in herself since and this morning, however her knees are still slightly warm (not hot) to touch this morning.

My problems is she is starting to pork out without the exercise :-( And I don't know what the best thing to do is :-(

Also - it was a lazy trip, but am sooo paranoid about it happening again - what are your thoughts on knee boots ? I read so many differing reports :-(

Our hacking is half hour road work to get anywhere decent (and then half hour back again!!) Although we do have a short 40 mins round the block - but again is 90% roadwork

So - when do you think she could start being ridden again gently ?

And knee boots? Worth a try ?

THank you so much in advance lovely ladies!

Sam & Lyla xx

First of all, knees boots- YES! I don't use them on mine, but after a friend's went down and ended up having 6 weeks off as she took the flesh down to the bone, she always hacks both of hers in the knee boots. (The shires westropp ones re the best, they're like an extended brushing boot. The ones that are just on the knees have a tendency to slip down and rub.)
As with the paranoia of her going down again, keep a short rein, and make sure she is walking purposefully and not meandering along which is when she will start dragging her toes.

I would walk her in hand for half an hour, and see if the knee swells or anything like that, and take it from there.

Best of luck, and I hope you are both OK.
