would you swim a horse with OCD?

Swimming is very good for getting fitness and strength without concussion or wear and tear on the joints. However, because of the way horses have to hold themselves in the water it isn't thought to be so good for their backs or necks.

Why in particular do you want to swim the horse? What treatment has he had for the OCD? Perhaps salt water spa treatment would be effective on post-operative swelling - this was something I considered for my horse who had an OCD op on a hock but didn't bother in the end.

Was thinking the cold would help the swelling go down. He is supposed to have joint injections but due to a issue with the bill he hasn't had them. 4 dressing changes = £650 my OH doesn't want to pay!! The dressings fell off as soon as they were put on, bit of an issue as I had to gaffa tape them to keep them on, vet out twice in one day. It goes on like that! Was trying to think of a way to get him moving without stressing the joints

Annoying! My vet used some sort of super sticky adhesive bandages which leave a horrid residue on the horse's hair, but stay on!

I'd definitely advise a standing spa over the swimming if you can find one deep enough to cover the stifle. And get the injections, they do work!

Good luck. Nightmare!

(good news is my boy is working PSG with piaffe/passage and his doesn't bother him)

Would you believe the bandages stayed on for the journey home from Newmarket and the weekend. My vet couldn't get them to stay on for 10 mins! I do want the injections but feel I need to pay the first bill first, lol. The vets like running up an insurance bill but its way over that now.
Will have a look re spa, only know about a pool atm.
