Would you switch from feeding TS Comp to A&P Fast Fibre?

As above really.

Financially I'd be about £40 a year better off.

Other not so good points the FF does not have Biotin in (though please correct me if I am wrong here) nor Yea Sacc or the joint supplement.

Would switching be a false economy!?

Your thoughts please....

I switched from t s to calm and condition with one horse and plan to use fibre during winter as added fibre instead of sugar beet. Both horses did well on c and c they are both tbs and Im pretty sure biotin is in c and c.My mare was underweight and lacked topline but she is more level headed on c anc has added muscle. If you look at my post under Tatty you can look at her condition. C and C has yea sack or prio biotics with check bags tonight if you like.

do you want to switch feeds purely on a financial basis? or for the horses personal needs? top spec complete is a balancer and A and P ast fibre is fibre! calm and condition seems to be an excellent feed (does what it says on the tin). i would go back to basics and re evaluate grazing, hay, haylage, work load, temperament, time stabled, time out in field, amount of comp work or hunting, etc. All to save £40 per year.!only a few bottles of wine or a couple of nice dinners out???????????????

I love the balancer as it does everything and is so easy to feed.

It was suggested to me that switching may be a cheaper alternative as I am between jobs (made redundant) and I am struggling financially, hence why I was investigating into possible feed options, and why I asked the question if changing feeds was a false economy. It would seem it would be.

If only I could even afford to go out to dinner or splash out on bottles of wine. At the minute, its all essential purchases only.

I have found the cheapest way of feeding my horse is with alfa a oil, topspec comprehensive and speedi beet. It lasts for ages, and means I'm not paying out weekly for feed!! I would look at swapping your horse to the leisure balancer or Senior as it is cheaper?

Does the horse get fed anything else apart from the Top Spec? Does he actually need the biotin, joint supplement and Yea Sacc? If you are really struggling with finances, then you could swap the balancer for a broad spectrum vit/min supplement such as Equivite or Benevit.

Go with the Fast Fibre, I think it's brilliant stuff. I had one on it, but now all of mine have it, either as the complete feed or as a mixer to something else. It bulks up massively after you have added the water, it takes them longer to eat it compared to other feeds and the added water stops me worrying about their water intake. Like I said I have moved all of mine on to it now (in one way or another).
On a cost front - I find that I don't need to feed as much as it dooubles in size once soaked.

Hope my input helps!

They are two completely different feeds - and if you fed the recommended amount of Fast Fibre you probably wouldn't be any better off financially compared to TS.

I have only used it to bulk out feeds, not as a suppy of nutrients (although it is supplemented).

He gets one mug Top Spec and one scoop Hi Fi Lite, he is on the lite cos we normally have good grazing but that hasn't happened this year, so I have upped the amount.

In the winter he gets one mug Top Spec and one scoop of Alfa A Oil or Just Grass - but split into two feeds. He gets a lot more hay and some haylage in winter when in.

He is a 19yo ISH who at the mo is a happy hacker! Due to finances! I feel that the added bits and pieces in TS like the Biotin and Yea Sacc and Jointy stuff are doing their thing as he has terrible feet (sand cracks in the fronts), though he does look a bit stiff lately, could be due to not doing his usual amount of ridden/lunging work as done previously.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Appreciate all comments.

Keep 'em coming!
