Just back from a real late finish at the yard - why - well you may ask - horse on livery for today, new lady, only been at yard a week...... horse was not in stable when I got back from a lesson..... texted a few folks in the block..... turns out the horse had been "forgotten"..... fortunalty he was still out in the field with several that live out.... but its not the point!

Done a bit of a quick muck out, but he has hay, water, feed, feet picked out and his breakie is left for the morning.

Left several messages for the girl running the yard... no answer as yet BUT do i tell the owner or not? my heart says yes - but my head says.... urm I could be in for an awful load of trouble if i do.

what do you lot think

tbh - the horse may have been forgotten if they have had an accident or a family member been taken ill etc. i wouldnt drop them in it just yet. I would however mention it to lady when you see her - hi are you ok, is everything alright/ i noticed horsey out quite late the one night so i bought him in for you. then swap numbers jobs a good one!

It may be that the horse has been left out intentionally, I would wait for a bit to find out the situation before mentioning it to the owner. If I paid money to have mine on full livery and it was forgotten, i'd be very miffed, but it sounds like a large yard and the horse is new so I suppose these things can happen.

Are you saying the person working on the yard forgot to do the horse or the owner forgot to turn up to do the horse ? sorry confused, I think its the 1st option, in which case I'd speak to the person who was supposed to be doing it before getting anyone in trouble, she might have genuinly forgot if you horse is new, not an excuse but understandable, I woudln't be happy if it were my horse but at least it was safe and wasn't running round like an idiot sustaining an injury

Well sounds as he hadn't even been mucked out it looks like he had been completely forgotten, not just left out in the field. Is it a normally DIY yard but horse can be done if requested? Can see how wires can get crossed that way. But a new horse on full time livery forgotten in the field is a bit bad tbh.

I would want to know. So I can thank the livery who sorted my Horse for me. And then I would talk to the YO and let her know this it was unacceptable.

I think you should tell the owner. Would you want someone to tell you?

Horse was OK out at grass,so why interfer? Think I would say "mind your own business," frankly

Really this

I know you did a good thing and its nice to help each other out, but...

If the horse was out with others that live out, why did it need to come in?
Unless there was some specific reason it needed to be in then it may have not been forgotten, maybe out intentionally?

Yes the horse would have been ok as was out at grass and I presume a supply of water.

But, if I paid for a full livery service, I'd not be impressed not receiving it. How would an owner know, presuming they wouldn't visit the yard that day as the horse is on full livery? They could only know if a fellow livery told them and its a simple case of treating others how you would like to be treated.

So if you pay for services you do not receive, you would deem it interfering for someone to tell you?
Can I suggest your first thoughts would be: Why didn't someone tell me? :D

To the OP, tell them, if this were your horse, you would not be happy that your horse hadn't received the service you would be paying for, and you'd be pretty disgusted with your fellow liveries not telling you.

If you believe its a genuine one off, then yes I can see the idea behind having a quiet word with the person responsible to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I would let YO know that you sorted the horse out and ask what his routine is supposed to be. If it happens again then I would let the owner know. Could be a one off mistake, could be the agreed routine so best to check first.

Perhaps then a noticeboard of each horse`s correct routine would be in order.Thank God I have my own land and NO busibodies telling me what and what not to do.If the horse showed colic signs/sudden lameness ..well fair enough, but otherwise??

I would want to know and hard it hard to understand how a horse can be forgotten. If nothing else a new horse is always an event!. I would say something to the YO but would also tell the owner. I would be really peed off if I paid for a service and it wasn't supplied - and more because it is not good for a horse to keep changing its routine.
