do you mean tied up via the chifney or while wearing a chifney under a headcollar? If tied to headcollar as per usual, I cant see why not. It would be like tying up via headcollar while bridled.

Never. Far too easy for the horse to damage their jaw. If the chifney is not attached to leadrope then i dont see a problem as its not active so to speak.

Absolutely never - I know of two racehorses that were tied up in a horsebox by a chifney and they both broke their jaws - one destroyed the other a very expensive vets bill. I would not even tie up with the lead rope only attached to a headcollar.

can't believe the question's been asked tbh - if the knowledge regarding the chifney bit is this shallow.....why on earth is one being used

A dangerous bit in the wrong hands.

I've never used a chiffney.
TOday I saw phOtos Of a horse tied via the chiffney. To a gate. That is chiffney-lead rope-twine-gate.
As I have never used one myself, I wanted to know if this was ever the done thing, before I decided the person was crazy :)

The person is not only crazy but putting his/her horse in insane danger and this is (IMHO) bordering on neglect.

Shakes head in disbelief and astonishment.

It makes me cringe when I see people tacking up and clip their leadrope onto the horses bit, so no never tie with a chiffney.

I would tie using a headcollar over a chiffney but only if I knew the horse well and there was nothing obvious for the horse to get caught on.
