As title really...have a championship show at the weekend...

Ignore tack as have brown showing saddle and brown double bridle with flat noseband...

Would you use a brown leather girth (which I don't have and need in time for Saturday!)...or a white one?

I have no idea why I posted the same pic twice!!

She's about the same on the other side...hence why I was thinking white....plus I don't have a brown leather one! But have to be spot on correct as its a championship!!

D1 is taking Big Cob to a Championship soon and he'll be wearing a white girth :)

Why not take both, hang round the entrance to the ring, and be ready to swap? :D

What class? (can't see photo)

If show pony or hack classes you could use the white one. If anything else, I'd go for brown if you can possibly get one. They look much more workmanlike, even on greys (as white usually dulls the greys anyway).

She's a coloured non native (riding horse type)....

Mrs M - I'll have to buy a brown leather one and can't really afford to if I don't have to...but I do want to be correct!

Yep - brown! White girths are only normally seen on Hacks or Show Ponies at County/Championship level.
I show a grey show cob, and he wears a brown leather girth :)

What if you look at the girths in your tack shop the say that you have seen it much cheaper else where. Would they give you a little discount then? Our tack shop does they knocked 20% off last time. What if you ask people on here. Someone might be able to help

Mrs M - Long Eaton / Draycott area....going to Equestrian Life Championships and need about a 44"!!!

Have spent an absolute fortune on gear just lately and just bought a new (2nd hand) show saddle so am about spent out for this month!! Never realised there was so many bits and pieces I didn't have!!

Gleek - there'd be no chance of that at our local tack shop....and their leather work is v. expensive!!

Someone remind me how to measure girths lengths? Is it just end of buckle to end of buckle?

I may have something you could have royal, but not positive on the length of it. It's big though, and will never fit anything I plan on having.

I've allways used a brown leather one for county coloured ridden classes, but i've just checked HOYS qualifier championship pics and all the ridden coloured horses had brown girths on.

Ah, close to me :)

If I knew where my leather girth was...., not sure what size it is though :o

We're going to the ELC as well :D. What classes are you in? :D

We're doing the ridden coloured Mrs M...

MissBird - I can't remember how to measure girths either!! But she's only 15hh and think 44" is quite small - thanks for the offer :)

orionstar - thanks for checking that for me....looks like its definitely brown leather then....boo!

Found girth, but way too big, sorry :(

See you there!

I can't remember what classes....., the only one I remember is that D1 isn't doing the WH! There was a mix up re. ages and she is too young - by less than a month. Bit peeved, but there y'go :cool:

Ack, I thought she was bigger by her picture! Definatly won't fit yours if it won't fit mine who's chunky 14.2hh.

Sorry I can't be of further help :(

Most girths seem to be measured buckle end to buckle end. However... the only ones I have that are the exception to this are leather ones actually, so do check the length before you part with your cash! 44-46 sounds about right to me for a 15hh

Good luck at your show, I wouldn't worry too much about the girth if you really can't get a brown one in time. Is there no one local who could lend you one? I would have said a white one would be fine personally.

I prefer brown leather but they really can 'cut a horse in half' so would maybe opt for white as she is white in the girth.

Really don't worry if you can't find one, having a white girth is NOT going to ruin your chances. I was once in the collecting ring at the East of England, just as a championship was going into the ring, people were frantically grooming, hoof oiling, changing reins girths etc. Lynn Russell was there, saying how she didn't know why people bothered, the horse isn't going to lose a class because its got shavings in its tail, and that she never groomed unless absolutely necessary!!

There is truth in this, you can have all the gear and your horse go badly. If you have well fitted appropriate tack, and your horse goes well, you won;t be dropped down the line for a white girth.

Good luck!!

Thank you everyone..you've all been so helpful...

I bought a Thorogood synthetic brown one as there were no leather one's in our size at local tack shop...suprisingly it doesn't look too bad...

Then a friend contacted me out of the blue and I've managed to borrow a 46" leather one off her which will hopefully fit.

Thanks again everyone
