Looking for some dressage/close contact leathers but can hardly find any for less than £60. Are imported leathers accepted as being safe for jumping etc?

Yep, used them for ages, till some light fingered swear word stole them! My friend got them off eBay really cheap, she's still using hers with no problems.

They typically smell a bit funny, but I liked the smell, that might just be me being a bit odd though :D

I wouldn't say they are dangerous, like the other poster they can smell funny and i found mine did stretch a little more than "English" i was extra careful initially to swap them regularly so my mounting side leather didn't over stretch compared to the off side while they were being worked in. i certainly prefer them to synthetic. for showing maybe also be careful as they don't always hold there original color so may not in time still match your tack :)
