Hi

Hope I'm not breaking any rules here. But as someone you may know we build horseboxes and I was thinking of renting one out of self drive hire, we are based in Newbury and I cant find anyone else around here doing it. Would be a 3.5 tonne box and around £100.00 per day. So just wondering what the take up rate would be on it.

many thanks

For me personally I wouldnt use self drive as I understand you pay for diesel on top and it works out incredibly expensive that way. I think about £100 a day though is the going rate for self drive.

I have looked into this in the past as we do not have or own transport. The charge per day is about £95 in my area but that is'nt what puts me off. The small print for conditions of hire is a mine field, obviously to protect the vehicle, but too much of a risk for me. The deposit is about £500 and on one that I read another £500 deposit was required to use the living area. There were other exclusions for damage like the windscreen and things that could so easily happen that it scared me to death to think of the what ifs and responsibility! Horses being horses there is a high risk of the lorry being damaged from the odd kick so I personally would not use selfdrive and if we do have to hire use a local professional that has a 4x4 and trailer. He is fully insured, licensed etc and probably works out less without the worry. Hope that helps.
