I could never part with either of my two horses - whom I plan to keep until the end of their days - just to pay for one day. I understand its a special day but still.....
And if my prosepctive hubby asked me too sell my horses to pay for it then I would be cancelling the whole thing....

Good grief no! That's what parents are for

Thats what I said when OH said we gotta save!!
Trouble is, his sister has just got married, so that cleared his parents out and my parents cant spare much either! Maybe IUll sell my body instead!!
Being absolutely serious - then of course the answer is still no. And whilst it would be nice for parents to cough up, realistically how many can??
I think a lot of people borrow money to get married. Me - I think I would save, and also look at doing it sensibly money wise, rather than spending a huge amount.
So, dig out your unwanted items and stick them on ebay - but don't sell your horse!!!
no way - weddings aren't for me though, I've never really wanted one, and I adore my pony monster! TBH (and this is just MY opinion, no disrespect intended to anyone) I cannot comprehend or understand spending thousands of pounds on one day.
no way, when I got married we did it fairly cheaply as we had little money and neither did my parents. We save before hand, I got my dress in the sale and OH got his suit in the M&S sale, a friend had a lovely old car so that was our wedding car, my bridesmaids dresses came from a chainstore and I did the flowers, and for the reception we invited the close friends and family that really matter. Reading this it sounds awful, but it was a fantastic day and 14 years later I still look back and smile especially as it didn't cost a fortune!
No - purely because I think people spend a ridiculous amount of money on one day's celebration purely out of "keeping up with the Joneses". You can have a super wedding for very little cost
I also think it is silly to get into debt for a wedding too BTW!
absolutely not in a million years, my boy will be my guest of honour (carting me there and back hopefully) and all wedding presents will be somehow to benefit him......now i must get on with my birthday list.....saddle / bridle / riding balaclava as seen on here yesterday....yer right. seriously tho, i cant imagine giving up the one thing that gives me total satisfaction and pleasure (oooh eeer missus) day in day out forever and ever for ONE DAY???
I'm with you Gorgeous George. We kept cost to a minimum (didn't have any bridesmaids or even a cake but we did hire a couple of saxophonists to play jazz) and 7 years on people STILL say it was the best wedding they have been to because it was so relaxed. No need to go mad !
no - we got married this year so had to put horse purchase on hold for couple of months but then i had the choice of a new car or new horse and i said horse please! personally tho - whilst my big day was great its one day ever - its what comes after that counts and a horse will last you every day!!! good luck with whatever you decide.
We got married this year in a lovely pub that had a licensed thatched barn, my dress came from Ebay (new - 250 instead of 1800!!) i made the invites, table plans etc we borrowed a vintage car, bought almost everything else off Ebay, fantastic cakes from M&S ( or Waitrose) ,used small florist who kept our flowers seasonal to reduce costs and our 60 guests had a 4 course meal, along with additional 50 evening guests had a monster cheeseboard instead of the more expensive buffet in the evening and the whole thing came in at £4500 inc wine/ champayne etc etc I have had so many people say it was the best wedding EVER!! We wanted a honeymoon instead of presents so the holiday company to issued vouchers to people who paid a contribution to our honeymoon ( they were so generous that our hunt subs were almost covered as well!!) PM me if you need any tips! PS because we didnt get into debt getting married, my OH was able to get himself a new horse!
No, if we get married it will be small, low key and NOT cost the earth - at the end of the day i think its the people who surround you that make it really special.
Agree with Weezy 100%. Some friends of ours had a mega wedding earlier this year, the money spent was obscene. The day was good, but it was just that ONE DAY,and their still paying for it now!!!
