Consider buying a TB ex race horse approx. 7years old with a ruptured tendon that occured last October? horse is not lame and has been well looked after with box rest for 3/4 months and now turned away....

Looks a very lovely horse and the sellers are being 100% totally honest but I dont have a lot of experience with tendon injuries so just wanted advice please...

Thanks

I'm afraid I wouldn't no. But then again I wouldn't buy an ex racehorse or even a tb.

I love my tb to bits but unless you have good insurance or pots of money I wouldnt .I have had a lot of bad luck or he has maybe its nothing to do with the breed but think very carefully.

I love my TB and he came without any medical issues ..... but I would not have taken him on with some, unless you have a big bank account, time and commitment

I am afraid that you are all right! horse wasnt scanned either initially so I would be buying him without proper diagnosis.....

I suppose he would be ok for just a hack... I dont have a lot of experience with ex race horses either....

so looking for cheaply priced 16.2 TB xID or heavier neddie for middle aged lady with own yard, own teeth and loads of love to give for a bit of SJ, XC and fun pleasure rides... lol

depends what you want to do with it, and the extent of the injury. horse should be very very cheap (as in, virtually free imho), because this is a serious injury that limits its usefulness for life.
if it truly ruptured its tendon (as opposed to a tear) then i would not expect the horse to be able to resume full work (galloping and/or jumping) but it should, with time and careful management, be fine for light hacking around and a bit of light schooling, i would think. i'd want to feel the tendon, check for adhesion between the tendons, see whether it is bowed, etc and see the most recent scan.

Depends which tendon on which leg. Depends on what you want the horse for. I'd say this horse would require an experienced home - TBs are difficult at the best of time. Having had two I can safely say you need an endless bank account, an endless supply of rugs and feed and plenty of time and patience. So in short, no don't buy it.

No. I have a horse who injured her tendon whilst in my ownership and although I love her dearly and would now never sell her on, I know I would never take on a horse with tendon issues because I know how utterly heartbreaking and hopeless the situation can be. I don't think it's worth the risk (for me, anyway).
We think my horse had injured her tendon before coming to me, and then re-injured it after I bought her - if I had known, I wouldn't have bought her.
