How long would you expect it to be for a wound to heal over a fracture site? The scan revealed an infection over the bone, which she has received a prolonged course of anti biotics to clear it up, the fracture is the splint bone. The wound still is not healing 3 weeks on. We have been using flamazine cream on the wound with no success? anyone have a similar experience?

is the wound dry or oozy? just thinking, if it is still oozing anything then maybe best that it isn't healing. generally the lower down the leg, the longer they take to heal.
my boy had a kick wound to his back leg, just at the bottom of the hock joint that got infected (not the bone though) - that took probably 4 weeks or so to really start healing but once it started, it progressed quite quickly.
This winter he managed to take the skin off the inside of a hind leg and cut along the underside of pastern and fetlock (in the field, god knows how!) - had to keep him in for 6-8weeks or more until it was fully healed enough to go back out into the mud!

seems forever when its your horse though! hope (s)he is ok!

My horse is recovering from a fractured jaw, and 3 months on it is still bleeding and sometimes a bit of pus coming from it. The vet has said it may never heal over 100%, so I am cleaning it twice a day with salt water or diluted hibiscrub. When she was x-rayed there was a darkened area over the jaw, and she did have infection in the bone around the screws which were holding her jaw in place. That bone was scraped out back to hard uninfected bone. There could be bone chips in it which are causing it to stop closing, but that should show up on an x-ray. What has your vet said?
