I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of this wound? It happened on the 10th August and I've been told it was from a kick. I've had the horse for a week and when it when it happened at the owners yard nothing was done to it for a week, now I have it I've been putting 50:50 manuka honey and calendula oil on it and bandaging it for 24 hours. I'm assuming the yellow stuff around it would be the oil and honey not puss? I've seen no improvement in it over the last week so I'm getting a bit worried that its not going to heal correctly. He's got a smaller one on his off fore just above the fetlock to and that has had a massive improvement. Do you think its going to be proud flesh also there is a bit of swelling round it, is there anything I can do to get rid of it or will it just go? It's nothing like it was as his whole leg was the size of tree truck! I would really really like it to heal back to normal as he is meant to be a show horse!! Any help or ideas would be hugely appreciated!!

Its a little hard to tell from the photo, but it looks as if there is some proud flesh there.
I don't know what products there are in the UK to treat it, but I think you should treat it fairly soon, or it may end up needing surgical debridement.
( do you have either proud aid or yellow lotion there? Ive used both of them with good effects)
Kx

The photo isn't great but it does look a little proud. I'd say you're on the right track treatment wise. When my youngster got proud flesh after a field accident, I cold hosed and cleaned the area daily, slapped plenty of manuka honey on to a pad, cotton wool bandage followed by vet wrap. It healed lovely with not even a scar :)

Lots of cleaning with diluted hibi scrub, cold hosing for swelling, betnovate cream for proud flesh and has the horse been on ab's and bute.
