On lunge today (I do ride as well honest) he gave me a few steps of the most amzing floating trot!Didn't believe a hairy could do that! Then I think he thought OH MY GOD if they know I can do that they will want me to do it all the time STOP. and he did.

Pictures?? im in need to be convinced that a hairy cob can do a nice floaty trot.. I certainly havent seen my girl do it!!!

Its amazing what devious hairies CAN do, but you are right, what they will let you get them to do is different!

Asti is only 1/4 hairy but I had my second flatwork lesson last night, and she made me work incredibly hard for 45 minutes of trot, to get some lovely strides of trot in a really brilliant outline, you could feel her lift and come up and over onto her bit and she was sooooo light... for a few strides then she'd make me work for it again for another 3 or 4 circuits of the school...

I swear its deliberate - looks way easier when someone else rides her!

I have to admit your Callum could almost convert me to hairies, if I didn't know what spawn of satan's hairy Dad is like, as is she, which puts me off!

Chloe has this down to a fine art

With my mum she looks the archetypal riding school plod, moving as slow as possible around the school

However when I get on she transforms into a dressage diva! Shoulder-in, collection, extension, leg yield and turns on the haunches all performed in a lovely outline. She still does the bare minimum she can get away with though

I'm just tougher with whip and spurs

Fairhill can I borrow you? I ended up more exhausted than Callum after the lunging, I will swear I worked harder. It was just those FEW steps. They are clever little so and sos aren't they? I think he thinks if he makes me work VERY hard I won't ask him to do anything again.

Sure, you're not too far from me at all!

But I have to say it's took me 2 years of schooling Chloe to get her into this place, and I'm still not quite there with Megan yet

I've got a very good instructor who shouts at me to stop nagging, use my whip and think forwards. She also chased us with the lunge whip for a while so that I could get out of the habit of working too hard, and Chloe got the idea that she could move forwards and it was easier than being lazy

Well my last instructor, to be fair, also taught the no nagging, give aid, back up with whip if necessary way and it does work when I remember BUT you do have to keep it up. Forget once and back you go. I am really just beginning to get to know him as we have had a few upsets (not Callums fault) which means we are starting over so to speak.Lunging is the same. He knows if you can reach with the whip or not and if its NOT then you work far harder than him.Its encouraging to know that you have reached there though and that it does take time and perseverance.
