Oh b*gger

So I got tangled up with a gate the weekend before last and nearly had a nasty accident, but fortunately horse stopped and looked after me. However the headplate on my wow was bent from a size 1 to wider than a size 2!

Now I didn't dare bend this back and use it as it wouldn't be symmetrical and I would worry about it bending

So I thought I would save myself a few pennies and buy from eBay instead. So I won the auction and saved only £6 from full retail inc. shipping. However unfortunately the headplate I have been sent is not symmetrical either!

I guess I am probably now going to upset the seller. Has anyone else had problems with headplates bending out of shape?

Which one's steel or Magnesium?? Ive not had one of the Steel headplates bend. All my spares are symetrical, so i would say that there's something not right about the one you've bought.

Had WOW's for 2 years now, however i think it's good that the headplates will bend under pressure.

Good luck with the Ebay seller.

Yep these are both steel - the magnesium headplates have been withdrawn due to snapping and are being replaced with carbon fibre.

I don't mind it bending in an accident like the gate incident, as it probably would have ruined a normal saddle.

How old is the headplate?
There was initially some problems with the headplates warping and bending. I had this happen with my headplate which was replaced free of charge by one of the up dated ones. Basically its only a problem in the lower sizes -1 to 2. If its an old one its just a smooth piece of bent metal. If its one of the new ones it has a reinforced piece of metal in the centre to stop it from warping. I've had no problems with the new design ones.

Why would you want a magnesium headplate? Apart from the cost, I really don't want a metal that is used in fireworks and other explosives right in front of my crotch!

You want one as its 2/3rd the density of aluminium, so it makes an extremely light headplate.

Magnesium is a highly flammable metal, but while it is easy to ignite when powdered or shaved into thin strips, it is difficult to ignite in mass or bulk, so you are perfectly safe with a wow headplate!!!

Guess the only problem would be if it came into contact with hydrochloric acid, although if that gets in your saddle you have bigger problems..... So maybe don't carry car batteries whilst riding in a wow....
