It is nearly 4 months since my latest ankle surgery and have been back riding a few weeks. Have been having lessons with a wonderful new instructor so have been mostly concentrating on me for a while..

Today however I decided to do both and wow wow wow I had the session of my life. Micah was awesome, he was so responsive, on the bit in all gaits, transitions were smooth and stayed on the bit. Did the most amazing rein back, good leg yield. This may not seem much to a lot of you but this is the first its all 'been there' for me EVER!! :D:D

Things are FINALLY coming together for us :D

Just to add he is the most amazing horse, took him for our first hack in months the other day he was so perfect we had a lovely canter, he didn't even notice the 50 or so flies around his head :D

Class, congrats! :) Onwards and upwards so.

Do you wear an ankle support when riding? I still struggle with mine a bit - been years since I did it in but I was an idiot during 'recovery' so it's still not right

Thank you, I am so excited about the future he is going to take me as far as I can ever dream of going in both DR and SJ and such a saint too :D

Sorry to hear you are having problems it is so annoying when things hurt! Have you thought of having it looked at again, it maybe that there is something they can do

I have done and do so if it is a little sore OR I have done too much. will also wear it when I start to jump as it will put a different stress on it.

The only one I found any good and comfortable is this one BUT its expensive

Soulfull - he sounds so lovely! Any piccies of you two doing your marvelousness?! ;)

I've had the parents (doctors) give it a quick check over (though obviously they don't have xray vision) they basically said just cop on and don't be a wuss. It's so great having doctors as parents, they're always so sympathetic  Mind you, tis the mother's fault it's so bad anyways - I shredded/tore/broke every single thing in it years ago during a tennis match for her club side and she made me play on because the club needed the points from a result. Spent the rest of a very long set hopping around the court in serious, passing-out level pain. 'Twas only when eventually she took me to the hospital when I was still in agony several days later that she admitted she probably should've allowed me to stop ;)

It's when I'm on long hacks with lots of rising trot that it gets sore, it's ok day to day, but I too hope to start doing more jumping so was also thinking about it for that. Thanks for the link :)

I so know where you are coming from, and that is not a small thing at all to do, and to have had such a great time that you feel so fantastic is really great to hear,we all have different problems that we have to overcome and our wonderfull horses help us get through, keep going onwards and upwards and I really hope that you have many more great times together. I am really so pleased for you keep us updated how things go, well done you

That's a massive achievement, no wonder you are so happy and excited. The future is looking very rosey for the two of you.

Doesn't sound like 'not much' at all....if/when the monster and I achieve such a thing I'll be telling everyone about it too :D

Well done, Micah sounds wonderful :)

Great news!
I've been following your posts as I had more than enough trouble when I broke my ankle and it was fairly straightforward compared to yours.
Onwards and upwards now!

I think you're entirely within your rights to feel proud of yourself and Micah - it's a big thing.

Not the same, but I had my knee rebuilt and it is almost like learning to ride again but in a way that works for you with the new constraints. So pleased you feeling comfortable and confidient now.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement :D

Trish well that's parents for you and they say Dr's are the worst lol . Sorry no photos this time maybe next time :D

Going to do the DR on Tues :D will be the 1st since surgery and only ever 2nd Prelim so fingers crossed

Hey it's not a small thing at all. Well done.

I ruined my ankle too and had surgery. I still really struggle jumping and with pain if I ride for too long.

Do you mean the first support on the page in that link? I've been looking for a support that will help for ages! Off to camp in a few weeks time and really worried about how much it will hurt.
