I took this pic when I got in from riding tonight. Big lad never usualy breaks a sweat, so this is the first time I've noticed this, but he has non sweaty bits underneath where his 'gussets' for wither hollows sits. Just incase you were wondering, he had an all wool numed numnah on.

This is with the fixed block jumping flaps on, which I ride in most days. The saddle was fitted just before xmas, but like I said, he never sweats under the saddle, so I haven't noticed this before.
I had thought he seems to have developed a little more muscle infront of and around his wither, and was thinking about getting the fitter back out to check the saddle.
Would extra muscle cause this?

And do I need to be worried?

It does look a bit odd for a wow to mark like this. You have had the saddle for about four months so it is due for a check. I always get new saddles checked after 3 months. The flair can cause a horse to change shape quite quickly. I bought a wow in August and I am already on my third headplate! And saddler is coming again in 2 weeks!! Id definitely get it checked again and then regularly for a while until her shape settles a bit.

The fitter said they can change quickly, but due to injury and bad weather we've not being doing very much work...... so wasn't convinced he had changed enough to warrent a check. Will ring her tomorrow though now.

Do you think it's because he has built up infront, so the pannel is being lifted away behind the wither

Dont really know but maybe your horse may have changed shape due to lack of work. The wow fitters dont usually worry about the sweat but I must admit the sweat patches under mine are very even if I get any at all. I also use a thin cotton saddle cloth so maybe thats why I dont get so much sweat.

Or more likely my horse doesnt work very hard
