Wow saddle flaps

I have come to the conclusion that my current Wow saddle flaps are not doing me any favours. I have conventional block dressage flaps and they are basically too long for my short stumpy legs. So I think I would do better with VSD flaps.

Does anyone have any black VSD flaps that they would like to sell or swap for my dressage flaps?

I also have stumpy legs (my WOW jump flaps are only 11" long and were made especially for my stumpy legs!) and went originally down the VSD route, but found them very uncomfortable to ride in. Blocks weren't right and it didn't look as good as the dressage flaps. Ended up with a pair of angled back dressage flaps - angling them back means my short legs can reach the blocks. They are not just in the angled back position - WOW put the holes in different positions so they can angle back even further than normal.

Before this I had various discussions with my fitter and David from WOW about shortened dressage flaps (the look isn't right - looks more like a show saddle after they have chopped 2" from the bottom), flaps with cut away bottoms - front is standard length and then under your legs is cut away by 2" so you get more leg in contact with horse, but the look is of a dressage saddle. Looks stupid when you're not on board though). Finally decided I'd deal with less leg against horse, but have flaps angled back so they are literally behind the vertical and have the block in the right place. Works perfectly. Could do with a size 1 panel and seat though to make it even better as size 2 seat is a bit too big for me and can't put a smaller seat on a large panel. :(

That's really interesting, thanks.

For me I think I would put having more leg against the horse before having the solid support from the block though. Plus both my horses are fairly small, the latest one is tiny in fact, so the dressage flaps do look a bit enormous on them.

Gah, what I really need is to try a few different flaps to see what works best but that is a bit tricky when you can only afford to buy secondhand :-(

My local Wow fitter carries lots of second hand stuff and is happy to PX peoples used Wow parts against her new and second hand bits... some Wow fitters do refuse to touch anything 2nd hand tho, which I find V annoying!

Who is your local fitter?

PM me if you'd prefer.

Polotash - would be grateful if you could pm me too. Am looking for an extra deep seat and a set of moveable block jump flaps second hand and they seem to be like gold dust!

I've yet to try my dressage flaps but suspect after reading this that I won't want them angled forward due to my stumpy little legs too!!
Have you looked on preloved? There are often random WOW items on there, but they go quickly (except some of the ridiculously overpriced 2nd hand wow saddles...)
Also is it worth looking through the directory of fitters on the First Thought website and calling them to see if they have any 2nd stock that matches what you are looking for? And posting on the Wow facebook page??

As per my signature, I'm after some size 1 DWG panels if any of you lovely people have some you'd care to part with!!

Thanks for the ideas, I've contacted a few fitters but haven't thought about the Facebook page.

Sorry, can't help you out there. I do have DWG panels but they are the bit of my saddle that works the best! They are ancient now, I have had a new seat and flaps but they are exactly the right panels for my boy so I shall keep them until they fall apart. I've seen plenty of DWG panels come up on ebay though, I'm sure some will be along soon.

If you have conventional dressage flaps are they the memel leather ones, if so they would be very easy to shorten and angle back. I have two or three clients with short thighs that have found once the flaps are angled back it makes the flaps feel much more secure anyway and a tad shorter. You could mark on the flap how much shorter you need them and send them down to David at WOW to do and have them angled back at same time, think you would be much happier than a VSD which is neither one thing or another

Not sure what you mean here? Mine are all leather, no suede, but not sure what sort of leather it is.

Hmmm, that may be a jolly good idea. I'll ring FTE and see what they say. Thanks!

Seeking Extra Deep Seat 17 inch (size 1), Gaint high fixed dressage flaps (preferably angled back but others considered) and wide ish panels with stitch line in black or v dark brown please! Either complete saddle or in parts, please email holly_dangerfield@yahoo.co.uk. Thank you.

Re previous posts... I have angled back dressage panels but do have quite long femurs.. weird but I like the fit! Maybe my hips are double jointed!
