I discovered last night that my steel headplate for my WOW has snapped. Has anyone else had this problem before? I've contacted WOW directly and they 'can't really believe this'. Saddler is visiting tomorrow so I'll be able to show her the evidence too as will have to get a replacement.

Keep us informed ,I am waiting for the new carbon ones to come out in the New Year [ and the price].I did ask at YHL about the magnesium ones but was told it is best to wait a month or so

My horse bent one by simply changing shape, I know they reinforced the head plates with an extra bit of metal.

Still I would never have a different saddle now!! I love my WOW!!!

Mine sheared the bolt off that holds the headplate in place, rather than the headplate itself snapping. I didn't notice straight away and horse seemed to prefer it like that bizarrely?
Wow repaired it for me and paid for courier both ways, it was only gone a few days

I had this happen to mine also as well as a faulty air bag - am I just very unlucky???

Was it a magnesium headplate rather than steel? They do snap

I've bent a steel one in an accident, and heard of other bending, but never the heavy ones snapping.

No it's a reinforced steel one that has broken. It's snapped just below the reinforced area.

Probably a friday afternoon weld thats weakened the plate!!!

Wow should sort it out for you as should not snap unless in an accident and even then should bend not snap

I've had a very old headplate snap (in the era before the reinforced ones were introduced), I've also had one of the bolts shear off the pommel too - and bizarrely, like Olive's horse, my horse was happy like this too - it was only when I went to change the headplate that I discovered it. I've never had a problem with one of the reinforced plates though.

That's interesting, thought it was just mine being odd! Makes you wonder if they'd be better with a more flexible headplate in them doesn't it really??

A headplate snapping would not be dangerous per se, as all that would happen is the sadle gets wider and drops. It would prevent finishing in a competition as (depending on how it broke) your saddle would probably start touching the withers.

In my case yes it bent, but had I been in another saddle it would have bent the tree and possibly ruined the saddle without me perhaps noticing (although with the wow the wither clearance went to 1 finger!!)

At least you can replace parts that go wrong!

Had 2 of the old sort not reininforced do that they replaced free of charge. Mine has also had 3 airbag problems but i have had it 4 yrs and wouldn't change it

This would be VERY dangerous - for me at least. My last horse who I bought my WOW for bucked like a maniac if he felt the slightest bit uncomfortable with a saddle. A WOW headplate snapping and making the saddle get wider and even worse touching his withers would make him snap, never mind the saddle. I love my WOW but they do tend to say things have never happened before when quite blatently its a lie. They told me they had never heard of the screw heads getting worn out - yeah right. Mine were so bad one screw got stuck. It took hours to get it off and the saddle nearly had to be sent back to WOW just to change the flaps
