have recently bought a wow saddle - and have been told it has a size 3 headplate in it - how do i check what is in it - its Red ? - I assume this is the lighter ones and not the steel ones. are there numbers on them to determine the size? and do i have to take it out to find the number? - fitter says i need a 1 or 2 - just wanted to check what i have before i buy a new one and arrange fitter.

0 is green, 1 is black and 2 is blue

Guessing you've got a 3

However the magnesium head plates have been withdrawn as they could snap if the metal is flawed. I still use mine, but I'm aware it's at my own risk. I probably wouldn't cross country or hunt with one in case it spoiled a day, not really dangerous but if you've paid lots of money to be there it's a risk!

It's a 3, above that size they only ever made steel ones. I got rid of all my lightweights because they can snap.

ah right - need a smaller size anyways if its a 3 so real shame they dont do a lighter one - fitter said they are producing them soon? weight will make a difference as its for a kissing spine horse so want to get saddle as light as possible.

Are you going for plastic stirrups? - they would make as much difference as the headplate, probably more. And a shorter panel than the seat size would also reduce weight, but maybe you'll have that anyway with kissing spines?

I hope it works well for you, I love mine because my horses move so well in them.

have gone for a 17" saddle so its as short as can be for me (panels hard to come by !) - Still Looking for panels still right now - trying to get DXWG or DDXWG no tabs and no stitchline - cant find 17" never mind 16" !!
I currently have harborne stirrups as i have crappy ankles but if they are too heavy when its all put together i will get plastic ones.
