Hi all, I currently have a deep seat WOW with forward cut jump-style flaps. I want to change though to a flat seat and XC flaps. I can't afford to just go out and buy a new wow saddle so I wondered if I would be best buying the two parts I need second hand by scouring ebay and preloved etc and changing them myself as and when I could get hold of them? Is it that easy to do? It also meant I could keep my panels which are set up perfectly for my horse currently. XC flaps seem to be like hens teeth currently and I'm surprised at the price of the second hand stuff but it must be cheaper in the long run?! Any advice from anyone who has rebuilt their WOWs?! Thanks xx

Definitely. I have done this a lot in the past. Just buy the bits you need when you find them and sell off the bit you don't need. You are lucky in that you want to move from popular to less popular, and you shouldn't lose too much on the deal.

Current price is £2,600 and going up at the end of April, that's why the parts are worth so much.

Thanks ycbm thats good to know! If I could just find the seat that would help but I don't want the flat tree which most seem to have?!

You want one of the rarest seats, flat seat curved Y bar. You might be waiting a while. You could also consider the event seat which I use, but it has no support in it at all.

There's a size 2 on eBay that looks in fair nick, brown?

How much cash do you have? If you can afford it, and you are swapping popular parts, you'll get what you want quicker, possibly, if you can afford to buy whole saddles, swap the parts, then resell the saddle somewhere that doesn't take commission. I've even made money doing this, I got £600 for a saddle I paid £500 for last year.

Tips: only buy saddles with the most popular panel, DWG or you limit your resale market. Anything with no stitch line above the stirrup bar is a very old and VERY heavy resin seat. Not everything with a stitch line is a leather seat, there are a few resin ones around like it. As yet, I've not seen the newest plastic seat/plastic stirrup bars available anywhere second hand. They are much lighter.

Thanks - you have been so helpful! I have put a couple of wanted ads on the FB pages but I will give some thought to the idea of buying a whole saddle. I saw the event seat on ebay but I need black really (unless its a massive bargain!) thanks again xx

That's a flat seat on eBay. The event seat is more like the flat blade of a shovel, with less of a dip to sit in.
