Wow saddles

Following a lovely pm, I also thought I'd ask for opinions on Wow saddles as although they are (second hand) a fair bit more than my budget I think their adjustability might mean that I wouldn't have to change saddle as the beastlet continues to grow....

I've had a play in a couple and at Badders and Blenhiem last year tried out all the different seat/flap combos and decided that ideally I'd want a deep seat (but would consider the slightly shallower one) with either the fixed block, or giant fixed block flaps with a view to getting some XC jumping flaps when I get some more pennies!! Would this work (i.e. shallow seat on dressage flaps or deep (not the extra deep) seat with jumping flaps)???

Any idea how much they may go for second hand? What about ex demo? Not really looked much on ebay etc as I haven't realistically thought about it until now (even though I have liked them from a rider perspective for a while now!!)

Also, how did people find their horses went in them? I realise the fitter is the most important factor but has anyone just not got on with them and if so why?

Many thanks

I'd highly recommend them but would suggest that you get a saddle fitter who knows about fitting WOW saddles. It's been a god-send to me as my horse has changed shape so much since I got it I'd probably have spent a fortune on traditional saddles.

I originally bought a deep seat dressage saddle and then bought second hand GP flaps for jumping as I wasn't jumping much at that time. When we started jumping more, and bigger, I did find that on occasions the deep seat didn't allow me enough freedom in the saddle (or maybe it was just my big bum getting in the way!). I started jumping more and changing the flaps every second or third day was beginning to get to me so I invested in a second shallow seat WOW with XC flaps off eBay - so I've now got two. I've also done dressage in the shallow seat and don't feel any difference to the deep seat.

If buying off eBay you'd ideally need to know what panels your horse needs but a good WOW fitter would be able to advise you.

I've got a friend who's selling a size 2 (18") WOW with fixed block dressage and SJ flaps - if interested PM me.

Maia - I have the GP with a deep seat and find it fine to do both dressage and to jump in. I don't find the deep seat too deep for jumping if you see what I mean. I am currently riding in the XC seat lent to me by my saddle fitter while mine is repaired and slightly perversely I like it for flat work but not for jumping! I think for jumping it would be fine with flaps that have big blocks to support you but with my tiny blocks it doesn't give me much support and I have to ride much more defensively. On the up side my SJ coach says my position has improved because of it! Fortunately I'm getting my own seat back today.
Tiger Feet - would your friend consider selling her jumping flaps seperately to the saddle and if so what colour are they? My instructor thinks I need a bit more support to my leg when jumping in bigger classes and Carolyn thinks I would be better with the XC flaps than the SJ ones but second hand would be great if they would match my saddle which is caramel and salamancer (I think).

The saddle in question is black. I'll ask her about selling the flap separately but not sure if it will go with your existing saddle. I like my XC flaps that I got to replace my GP flaps - I feel more in balance over the jumps.

i have a deep seat with jumping and dressage flaps any more info PM me...i may be selling some parts soon...

Tiger Feet - Sadly black definitely won't match - the loan seat I've just given back was black and it did look an odd combination with my caramel flaps - people at shows must have thought I had very odd taste! Carolyn is sending me the XC flaps on Monday to try and if I like them I'll just have to bite the bullet for new ones I think. Thanks any way.

I love mine. I've got a deep seat with dr & jumping flaps. It's done wonders for my position, esp as it's adjusted to take account of me sitting crooked due to 2 old injuries. My horse also loves it & goes really well in it.

I love my WOW. I have a deep seat and the giant block dressage and also jumping flaps. I find the saddle really comfy and its nice to be able to angle the flaps just as you like them and to use the different stirrup bars depending on what you are doing. I find a massive difference between the dressage and jumping flaps - I need to put my stirrups up 5 holes when I change flaps to the jumping ones!

I'm not a fan, it felt like i was riding in a giant nappy! And it did pinch my horses' shoulders even after trying it adjusted a few times, did give it a good chance but wasn't for me. I can see why people like them though.

Nappy feeling is only present on certain seat / panel combination

I had that on DWG panels in a shallow seat

I now have SDWG panels in a flat seat and have no nappy-ness!!!

If it's the same Carolyn from Alnwick - I'll be seeing her on Saturday to have my two WOW saddles checked and fitted!

Thistle- IF i change i will keep all the Jumping parts,.....but would probably sell my deep seat (size 2. ) and my fixed block giant flaps (all in black).....to be honest i have not decided yet...need to have a serious think.

Do not really know what to do atm.

I also find that when riding in my dressage flaps my saddle slips foward so much...i thoght we sorted it last time it was checked but its doing it again now.

FranA - that's interesting - mine's been slipping forward with the dressage flaps on.

I've now had Adrian for just over a year & I've had the WOW for about 8 months, so maybe it's time to get the saddler out to have a look.

well mine was only done a little while ago and have a great fitter.

One thing you could try is use the fore-girth...when you screw the flap to the seat there is a strap near the top of the flap (poking out) with a hole in....place that onto what you push the flap onto which the screw then threads into :s does that make sense?? LOL i really can't think if a better way of describing it.
