Im thinking of getting my boy a Wow saddle in the future and have been looking at their website. If i decided to go ahead with one, i would be looking at getting both the dressage and jumping flaps.

How do you get on with your WOW and what flaps etc have you got and what was the initial fitting process like??

Thanks

My friend got a Wow saddle a few months ago. I was there for the initial fitting and the lady was fantatsic. First she assessed the horses conformation, and way of going (trotting up, turing in circles, etc) and felt his back. Then fitted a saddle to him and then my friend rode in it for about half an hour. The change was immediate, and he goes absolutely fantastic in it, he even came 1st in his first comp after getting the saddle.

She got the dressage fixed block deep seat i think. She also got a girth and stirrupp leathers. Think it cost about £1,800 in total but she didn't get extra flaps.

I want one

well my first fitting took hours!! i have gone for the deep seat with giant fixed block dressage flaps and fixed block jumping .
i can jump in the deep seat very comfortably at the moment and i find both very comfy to ride in!

the fitting process was fanastic much better than any saddle fitter i have ever had before and a lot of time and care and attention was put into getting it to fit the horse and also be balanced and suit me. really couldnt praise it enough and it was thoroughly explained so i felt very happy in the end!!
any more info i shall be happy to help with!

also to add, i hadnt ever had seperate specialist saddles so to speak only ever ridden in a gp, so i infact found the process of trying quite hard as i didnt know what it should feel like, or what i liked, especially dressage flap wise if you see what i mean! got there in the end, i suppose timer will tell but so far am very happy with them both!
the leather is also really sorft and even the girth straps soon suppled up after a couple of uses; which were never hard to start with!
you can see some pictures in my sig from me riding in mine! the xc ones were the 1st tme i had jumped in it after having it fitted! so you can see i felt pretty secure!!

My horse has real issues with saddles and Ive found the wow to be fantastic. (Still got a few probs to be investigated this week!). I needed the girth as well. I would also go for the flair.

I didnt like the gp flaps. So if my horse comes right will buy the jumping ones as cant really afford to buy a whole new saddle!!

Some of the wow fitters are better than others so it may be worth telling us where you are based and we might be able to make a recommendation.

Mines a deep seat with standard dressage blocks.

I went to wow due to a number of issues my horse had. He has enormous withers for one thing.... he had severe muscle wastage directly behind them due to being ridden in a poorly fitting saddle by his last owner, but equally is then very broad across his spine.

To add to this, he's very short coupled through his back and Im 5ft 10". He was having issues with rounding up correctly whilst being worked and his shoulder movement seemed to be getting stifled in any saddle

I ended up having David and Maggie who own First Thought doing the fitting (due to various complications) and I think they were with us about 4 hours.

The result though is that they completed eradictaed his issues through his back and his saddle now fits correctly and can be tweaked the tiniest amounts when necessary to ensure it stays a perfect fit. I'd go back to them anytime.

The flair means he has muscled better over his back and his muscle wastage has gone (he's gone up about 7 headplate sizes). The tree allows him to move properly through his shoulder which is important since he's a dressage horsey.

I love my wow, wouldnt change it for the world and he's working so much better in it than he did in other saddles. I put some piccies up in the gallery of him over the weekend, although I really wish I'd got some prior to the wow fitting :/

Dozziesmummy - Im based in Lincolnshire and from what i can see on the WOW site there are a couple of fitters in Derbyshire and Leicester.

Do you have to buy the WOW girth for the saddle? Its just that i bought an Otto Schumacher dressage girth back in September and i would be a bit loathed to have to get rid of it TBH!! LOL!!

Also for the people who bought the extra flaps for jumping, just out of interest how much roughly did they cost, its just they don't seem to mention the prices of extra flaps on the site. Don't mean to be nosy just curious!!

No, you dont have to buy a girth; any dressage girth will work

The extra flaps are £450 a set from First Thought (or were last time i spoke with them). You might be able to get a deal on spare set if you're already buying a saddle.

I have professional choice, Shires and cheap lidl girths. You can use any make of short girth (If it fits!)

I am looking to invest in a short stud girth, but won't be a wow one as they are too expensive.

I had to have the zig zag girth as a normal dressage girth slipped forward on my horse and cut into her. But if you find a saddler in your area who will lend you a wow for a week you can find out if you need the girth. It depends on the shape of your horse. Dont forget there is a 6 week wait for a wow.

Sorry dont know the fitters in your area- could recommend one in surrey!!

The configuratipon of my saddle is..

PS Seat: 18” Deep

Flap: Fixed block dressage flap + 1”

Panel: 18” DDWG with tab no stitch line

Headplate width: No 2

And is in black buffalo!!
