Wow these people actually own horses?!

Well it is very common practice over here (Ireland) to feed silage to horses, although I don't myself, and never would. I know of a very large yard that feeds it all year round.

When I (politely!)questioned the wisdom of this and the risk of losing horses, the reply was that when feeding upwards of 60 horses, the few that might die from colic still make it cost affective to continue.:(

The best advice I can give you is not to look at most of the horsey pages on facebook, until I looked on fb I never realised there were so many stupid people who have no idea how to look after a horse actually owning them.

Some of the things you see on there are truly frightening my dad always say's I am far too picky about who I sell to, I now think I need to be even more stringent after looking on there.

The Norwegians at uni all fed silage to their horses when they were at home seemingly without issue. I wouldn't feed it but I feed straw which some people don't agree with.

Seen some bad ones - girl breaking in ( or attempting to ) very young cob. Asked why the filly kept putting it's tongue under the bit, people thought she was confused, but no turns out she thought the bit goes under the tongue...

how about someone who would say they were an experienced horse owner
Just got a new horse 16 hand TB - can only feed once a day it &... only 6 days of the week as cant make it to the yard on the 1 day - on a diy yard & they dont offer any services

We had one livery who turned up with this cute little welsh section a, had no idea how to look after him, left him in a huge field, no shelter getting badly sunburnt! We used to bring him in explain to her why she should bring him in or at least to put suncream on etc same situation the next day! She then just turned up with another elderly mare and a little Shetland which once again got dumped in the field until she decided that she wanted to ride one baring in mind these ponies were no bigger than 12h and she was at least 15 stone!
Skip forward a few weeks and she just disappeared left the ponies in the field with no water etc didn't answer her phone- we didn't see her for over 6 weeks. All she could said after was I had family issues so couldnt get there no sorry or thank you for looking after them for me, Luckaly we managed to keep hold of the Shetland as part payment for her livery bill but I dread to think what happened to the other 2 when she left!
What worries me the most is when she came to view the yard she seemed like she really knew what she was doing, went on about everything she had done in the past told us about the horses she used to ride she was really convincing yet clearly it has all be a bunch of lies
