Hello 👋🏻
I’ve been following advise from Westgates and went to buy the equest pramox for 2 of mine. The shop did not have any and said use Equimax as an alternative. I did then since realised it does not treat encysted redworm.

I’m slightly embarrassed to ask westgate what to do.

Should I worm them again with equest?
How long should I wait?

Thank you 🙏

I'd start by ringing the shop and complaining! Wormers have to be sold by a suitably qualified person so you shouldn't have been given incorrect information.

Equimax should last 8 weeks so I'd be inclined to leave it that long before worming again. Or you could ring Westgate and give a false name, though I'm sure they'll be understanding and helpful.

Do call Westgate for advise. They're very helpful.
I didn’t want to use pramax on a new horse (has been known to cause colic) so wormed with just equest initially. Asked them for advise re subsequent tapeworm worming. They advised interval between worming was more than I thought so I was glad I asked.

Well first of all don't be embarrassed. Worming is a complicated subject, hence why wormers are supposed to be only sold by properly trained individuals.
In your shoes I would go back to Westgate and explain what's happened, but if you really are too embarrassed you could also speak to your vet.

Oh my goodness it can’t be as bad as when I found worms in my horses water bucket in the field, I rang Westgate to ask if it was possible they fell out of my horses nose 🤣 nope they said those will be worms the birds dropped! They were right, earthworms dunked in water 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was so embarrassed but the lady on the phone was so nice!

I dont think there is any need to be embarrassed!! Who amongst us hasn't got a bit flustered and said "yeah okay" when they should have just left it?

Just go back to them. Then come back here and give the forum the right answer 😂
I did just that. They were very kind and supportive. I’ve been advised to give the green equest 4 weeks after the equimax. Phew!!! I feel much relieved now 💞
