My horse has apparently pulled her front shoe off for the second time, I can only assume its because of this stupid weather and never ending mud. I can't find the shoe and Im too embarased to ask the farrier to come back again as he only came 2 weeks ago and put a new front on for me charging nothing after she lost her front only a couple of days after shoeing (once again I never found it must be buried in mud!) . She isnt due to be shod another 2 weeks and as Im not doing much (who is?!) I can hack her in a hoof boot. There are no nails in it or anything.
Ive had the same farrier years and is very reliable coming out short notice, but only does a select few clients these days that are no drama. I just don't want to become a pain in the bum client!
Should I just leave it till next shoeing?

It's extraordinarily muddy at the moment, so don't feel bad about asking him if it can pop it on when he's nearby or if he's happy to leave it, or compromise and reshoe a little earlier.
I'm on a large yard and several farriers visit there. This is quite handy because they're happy to pop lost shoes on as a favour for each other.

Yup phone him. I once had the farrier out 3 times in a week. To be honest HE was embarrassed at that, kept muttering that he couldn't work out what he was doing wrong. ?

Phone him with “I don’t mind in the slightest if you’d rather wait, but wanted to give you the option if you’d rather not”. It’s hardly your fault.

All good until someone stands on the nails in the shoe in the mud. ☹️. Ring the farrier though.

Fingers crossed it doesnt turn up that way! I literally went round the field with a metal detector I borrowed and I still can't find it I'm stumped

Thanks for the replies, I think Id best let them know and leave it up to them.. I'll have to get over my cringe about it ?
Id blame my horse but to be fair to her it is pretty terrible, ive never known it to be this wet.

My asbo pony took his 2 front shoes off 3 days after shoeing. My farrier thought it was hilarious luckily! Thank goodness he only had them on to help a crack grow out. 3 shoeings and we decided it was done!

I agree with let him know the situation stating that what you have said above about how you can manage the situation. If he doesn't charge for coming out for a lost shoe maybe a bottle of wine as a thank you.

I haven't checked outside edges and definetly not trees ? so will have another hunt.
Would overeach boots help with this or they just going to end up buried as well?

The westrop petal boots definitely helped. A petal would be removed fairly regularly but easily replaced. Over reach boots were removed with teeth, even the solid rubber ones! When Robins feet got bad he wore over reach boots and they definitely helped.

You should try coping with my mare ? shoes are pinged off on a regular basis in winter. I literally text my farrier saying "demon mare strikes again" for him to reply "I'll be up tomorrow morning". I would never feel embarrassed to text him if my horse lost a shoe. Its just part of the job ?‍♀️

I quite often text my farrier with ‘my stupid f****** mare has lost another shoe! See you soon?’ and he’ll come out in a few days.
2020 was okay, only 9 lost shoes, but 2019? Crazy.

And that’s with rubber bell boots on all 4... they’re lost or destroyed on a regular basis too.
