I love my Current yard. The rules are a bit strict but manageable its a new build, very clean, good location, good security and awesome yard owner, However The yard owner is not always there and he's second in command is not always easy to deal with, We don't yet have a school although the foundations are down, whenever we ask when its likely to be finished we get fobbed off, Despite having 30 stables only 12 are filled and I am one of only 2 DIY'ers on the yard, the others are all 5 day liveries. Since moving there in May i've hardly ridden my older horse as he wont hack alone and its very rare anyone is around to hack with, I have done all the ground work with my youngster but no school/schooling area, means I'm having to send her away for backing/schooling. However I have found out today that my old yard has spaces available again and its cheaper, although is older, drafty, no auto drinkers, and has not got brilliant turnout, I was quite happy there, its got a decent enough school and lunge pen. So what would you do?
 
If it was me I think I'd move back to the old yard and consider the move to the new place again when the school is completed. Obviously the drafts and the lack of auto drinkers didn't adversely effect your horses in the past and you were happy there. The new place doesn't seem to be suiting you very well right now.
 
I'd move too, doesn't sound like the current yard has much to offer! im sure you can sort out the draftiness if needed? if not the money you save you can get warmer rugs? and filling buckets isn't too much hassle is it?

I understand your pain with the young horse, I was hoping to back my 3 yr old myself but have him on a yard with no facilities and im alone, so its very difficult, so will have to send him away!
 
I would move, I think, but why did you leave it in the first place? There must have bene something you didn't like. Will there be all winter turnout for your youngster?
 
I Left because my young mare had a surprise foal that I didn't know she was expecting, now he's a yearling and turned away in a heard of youngster's, so he's no longer a problem :D
 
Check out other yards in the area for one that suits all your needs?

In reality I guess most of us have to compromise on something (mine is location) so I guess you really need to work out your priorities. Personally the things I won't compromise on are good all year turnout, a floodlit school and access to off road hacking. It was only really when I started looking at options that I realised how important they were for me.
 
I wouldn't move your yearling back to the old yard. Turnout is much more important for him. I would hope the school is ready by the time he's three and you need to start doing something with him. I prefer not to do things with youngsters, just the basics of handling, and leave them to play and develop.
Re. hacking,I would try to arrange to this in advance with liveries or staff.
If that fails, I might look elsewhere - but not back to the old place!
