Right..

At the moment I work in a vets on reception Mon-Fri from 4pm-7pm and every other Sat morning. I enjoy my job and small chance that I can get more hours in the cattery part of the vets but basically it is what it is.

Ive also, just (today) sold my 2 shetlands as I couldnt afford them plus my riding mare at livery.

So I currently just have my 13.2hh(approx), rising 6, liver chestnut welsh sec c mare called Lola. With her I've finally found my dream horse so shes staying with me definitely :)

I just feel like im drifting and I'm so indecisive I get no where.

I have wanted to go travelling for a long time but I keep putting it off as I dont want to go alone and I have the horses etc...

But I keep thinking about it more and more!

I dont know whether to loan Lola out(from current yard so YO can keep an eye on her as I trust YO), once I've saved up and just bite the bullet and travel!

OR

I wonder whether I'm just bored and I should get anothr P/T job or quit mine for a full time job and settle down and move out/get transport and start to get Lola going competing wise :)

OR
Carry on as I am but now I have one horse, save up to get transport so I can compete and enjoy all the time I get to be with my horse and stay at home for now til I'm older and more decided in a permanent career/job before I properly move out etc.

WWYD?? Just looking for opinions because it's useful to see what people think and helpful to me for my decision :)

Definitely travel! I know it would be hard to loan out your horse, but if you want to do it you definitely should... If you have the itch now, i doubt it'll leave you.

I went travelling alone a few years ago (admittedly I didn't have a horse to worry about) and it was life changing :)

Ah I know your probably right TT55... I also dont want to ignore it, settle down then do it as it'll be so much harder....

But it will be hard to leave Lola :( But then as long as she stays at current yard I know she'll always be looked after.

If you can trust your yard owner to keep aqn eye on Lola then you shouldnt worry about her. Plus, it's easy to stay in touch and you'd only be a flight away if something went wrong. Also, as Equi says, if you stay for your horse, you might end up regretting it.

Travelling is so much fun and helps you put things in perspective. Also, don't worry about going alone. I was scared when i went alone, but it's so easy to meet people and when you are alone it is much easier to do what you want without worrying what other people think or want to do. I have a friend who also put off travelling due to not wanting to go alone... eventually she bit the bullet and did it (although she met up with her sister for the first week or so) and she couldnt believe why she ever hesitated.

Fast forward 20 years and sat saying "what if"? Find a loan home and follow your dreams. Just a word of warning my daughter and partner did this 18 months ago and started in Australia .. They are in same place 18 months on. She is in her dream job. he has brilliant job to. now have further extended 4 year visa with view to residency. Fell in love with place :) lol

TRAVEL!!

Now that I'm a mum it's one of my biggest regrets. Especially now a lot of my friends who I have on Facebook are coming back from their travels and are starting to settle down with careers and families, I'm 26 so would have had plenty of time by now to see the world. Since I've had a kid my next thing to do is have a career, but by the time I get to Uni I'll be nearly 30, then I would want a good length of time in my career leaving no room to travel, especially as I plan on having more kids!

DO IT! Your horse will be fine, especially since she is only rising 6, so like someone else has already said you can get away with losing a year.

I considered doing some proper travelling when I finished Uni but came to the conclusion that firstly I didn't want to leave the horses that long or secondly miss this event season when I have two horses in their prime years. I did consider going just for winter but then I didn't want to miss hunting! I suppose its just what your priorities are. My plan is to work save money and then travel for short periods over the next few years probably either starting the event season late or ending it early to fit in with minimal loss to the season. It suits me because whilst I enjoy going to new places and exploring I don't feel the need to live and work in them. My best friend however has massively itchy feet and as well as wanting to see new places she wants to live in them, work there and immerse herself in that culture. She will be selling her horse since there are so many places she wants to go she won't be back for a few years. I respect her for it, but couldn't and wouldn't want to do it myself. I hope I will be able to meet up with her when shes in places I fancy visiting. Go with your gut, personally at the moment I'd have more regrets missing cracking on competing with my top mare, than I would from not travelling, but who knows that could change in the future :) and it sounds like maybe you'd regret not travelling more?

Thanks everyone, great advice :)

In regards to my mare I know 100% my YO, who is also a good friend, would keep an eye on her so if loanee was no good she'd make sure Lola was ok.

In regards to competing her, she has a good jump and I want to hunt her etc but she'll never be anything massively special so missing out competing isnt that big a deal as I dont even know if she'll affiliate at the moment!

The fact that everyone says travel shows me soemthing! Even my dad thought it was a good idea and hes all for me moving out/getting a FT job so that surprised me too!!

Im just being a wimp I think and I need to listen to u guys and bite the bullet :)
