I saw a second hand martingale on preloved for a good price. I contacted the seller asking about it and it seemed to be what I was looking for. I asked about the condition in which the seller replied its in "good condition" and sent me a photo (the photo is awful quality and impossible to tell anything from) so I trusted that it was in good condition and bought it.

It arrived the other day and it is far from in good condition. The stainless steel fittings have all tarnished, the leather is cracking all over, it has nearly split all the way through on one area where the stitching has come loose and it has been chewed the entire way round, (nearly through in some places) by what looks like mice!

I have emailed the seller but have heard nothing back which is what I thought would happen...

Now I didn't pay a lot for it but I don't see that as being the point. I know eBay seem to take this quite seriously. Just wondering what I should do/if there is anything I can do?

What would you do?

I had similar- bought some stuff, stupidly the woman gave it me in a bag, biggest load of crap ever! The problem is that good condition is subjective, so for her it might genuinly have been in good condition but not for you. I'd maybe send her another message, but then leave it if it wasn't a lot of money, if it was a different size or something than you might have a chance. Failing that you could lodge a dispute through paypal but again is it worth the hassle

That's the thing, for the amount I paid its probably not worth the hassle. It's just annoying, it is blatantly not in good condition and frankly is be scared it would snap during the first use! Thank you for your reply :)

If I had paid a fiver for it then I would just suck it up but something like £20 I would ask for my money back (esp if paid by paypal).

It was £10.50 altogether. The more I think about it it's not like it's broken the bank. Didn't pay via PayPal though, did a bank transfer

I'd just leave it, annoying though. I might drop an email to preloved, just mentioning it, in case the seller sells crap to anybody else!

If it is as bad as you describe it is unsafe to use.

If you get no response from the seller - relist it , honestly, on preloved saying who you purchased it from and that it may be suitable as a piece of pub decor but not for use on a horse. Then send the seller the link.

I'd bet my hat it isn't English leather either. What a shame, it makes it so hard for us honest folk to sell things.
