All horses were shod and trinmed 7.30am on thursday.
This particular horse is shod in front barefoot behind. Moving really well the day he was shod full of bounce striding out..
Turned out after shoeing. (lives out 24>7 with open pole barn.
When I got the horses in this morning he is sound but not as free moving as usual took him into the school sound in walk and trot but not moving as freely as usual a little tentative maybe. the one front foot feels warm and there seems to be a very slight digital/pulse in that foot.
I seem to remember when the lad was doing him he moaned he was a bit restless and pulled his front foot away a couple/of times .I was holding an elderly horse (30 year old Thoroughbred) who finds it hard to hold his feet at certain angles and if I stand with him is better.
my thoughts are he has shod him close and it is a nail bind .I have given him some bute and left him turned out I don't feel at this stage anything is urgent as its Saturday and difficult to get hold of the farrier poss not a vet call at this stage.
I intend to monitor him over the weekend to see if he gets better or worse and if remains the same contact the farrier vet on Monday morning I am still concerned. If it gets worse and I suspect an abscess i will get the vet out tomorrow.
Would you do anything different

I'd contact the farrier. My farrier would be with me asap to inspect his work if he thought he might have caused lameness... and would probably more upset than me too. but he's possibly unusual in that regard (based on my experiences with other farriers, obviously I could be wrong there). I would still probably contact the farrier and get their view even if they were a bit more grumpy than mine. It does sound like the shoeing has caused the issue so I think it is beholded upon the farrier to sort the issue as soon as possible given that the horse is in pain, albeit not serious pain yet.

it was his lad who shod him as the farrier was doing the old boy who is more difficult .He is fully qualified and not an apprentice and works with the farrier 3 days a week.
I know he has gone off show jumping with his daughter so will try and contact him tomorrow if no different.

For reassurance - When I was in a similar position some years ago, a passing vet (visiting another liveries horse), commented that lameness due to shoeing is usually bad, i.e. hopping lame. Mine was fine the next day, possibly he had stepped on a stone.

I would drop farrier a message just to say not right could they come look when can get to you just so they have plenty of notice so can plan you in, but I wouldn't expect them before Monday :) and I wouldn't panic too much in the meantime and be doing the same as you.

farrier was out first thing this morning .Looks like it is a nail bind .Reseat shoe check foot over will be out in 2 days to check all is well.
