If you were looking to buy something (don't want to mention what it is in case the seller is on the HHO) and found it normally retailed at about £9-12K secondhand but had found one which was half the price and much newer but the seller was not answering your emails, and was selling it on a well know site.

It would also need to be collected in person although the advert doesnt mention that it mentions "will be posted once payment has cleared" and is asking for payment by paypal where cash on collection would be much more appropriate. Would you think there was something very wrong or just a brilliant bargain and a cant be bothered to reply seller?

It's a scam. There's been a thread on here recently regarding a trailer/lorry (can't remember which) for sale under similar circumstances & apparently its a well known scam :(

I suspect this is the well known IW 511 trailer on ebay. Up for about £2500 and seller will deliver. No, seller won't deliver and will run off with your £2500 and there's nothing you can do because the payment details are a scam.

I also thought of the horsebox but this bit is interesting...

I wouldnt accept anything worth that amount of money to be sent by post/parcel

If they wont let you go and view the item then walk away. Its in their interests to let people come to see it as sometimes a deal can be done there and then and they can simply remove it from sale

Yes it is on ebay and they have a 100% feedback score which is why I thought it so odd. Its not the 505 but it is a trailer and they are not offering to deliver it either.

Scammers can hack into other people's ids and use their good reputations. That would probably explain why your emails are not being answered.

Oh I've just found it I think - lovely trailer but you won't get that trailer for that price!! It's got to be a scam. I would imagine after end of auction, winning bidder would pay and that would be the last you would hear of it!
Message them and say can you pay cash on collection or come and view? I bought a 5 star earlier this year and saw quite a number of these scams, took quite a bit of pleasure in asking scammers if I could come and view etc and when they came up with a litany of excuses why not, it was quite entertaining! I did also report to eBay but they never seemed to do anything about it.

Yup, sounds like a scam. Very similar to when I was looking for a trailer, except I actually got emails. I was playing along see how far they would go with the pretending to meet me, in the end when I said I would be in that area that weekend, I never heard anything again.

Unfortunately a girl at the yard got sucked in and handed over £3k....never to be seen again.

For something 2nd hand for that amount of cash I would ALWAYS want to do the deal in person.

I think I may have been hacked on a number of occasions as I sometimes get emails from buyers asking about an item I have for sale...only I don't have it for sale. They are either genuine buyers and my account has been hijacked or they are scammers themselves phishing for live email addresses and ebay IDs to hack. :( Either way, I ignore the emails.
