Does anybody know how good they are at laying? we have just bought two ten day old chicks, we have yet to sex them so they may not lay at all!

According to the goddess of poultry keeping, Victoria Roberts, a Wyandotte will lay approx 200 tinted eggs p.a. which will drop off as they get older. If you can find it, her book 'Poultry for Anyone' is worth a look. It has some useful comparison tables in the back and some fab photos of posh birds in the front!

Show or Utility? Shwo is about 75-90 per anum, utility closer to 200. Ours are ok layers - it on/off

Mine lay very well, but go broody every 10-12 eggs! So not very reliable. Very nice chickens, though. If anyone wants any I have gone a bit hatching mad!

Hop onto the practical poultry forum - which is nearly as addictive as this - and ask there.

mine used to lay very nicely - and good dark brown eggs, tho' not as dark as the Marans
