How much would x-rays and a general anaethetic generally cost? Cindy will soon be getting this done for her hips in preparation for breeding, but I don't know what to expect price wise? I know there is also the charge from the BVA for getting the x-rays looked at etc

Some places do it under sedation rather than GA - if you can find them? There is one is Southampton... but not sure about near you

Not sure of price - was going to get Loki done tho.

we charge similar for GA or sedation. depends on size of dog. roughly £100 for GA, £30 for one xray and it's extra for the BVA costs - cant remember how much - about £30 ish i think.

Don't know about the hip score one but my Rottie had to have her shoulder X-rayed and the bill was almost ....takes a deep breath.......700 quid. Was horrified and the vet is a very good friend so keeps costs down where he can!!! She did have several x-rays done though.

i just dont understand how you can spend £700 on xrays.

even for a large dog our GA fee is about £150. 1st xray is £30, subsequent ones are £20. So £200 for 2 xrays. would have to do another 25 xrays to make £700!!! and i'm in surrey working for one of the most expensive vet hospitals in the area.

Me either but we did query it and he says it is right! Thank God for Pet Plan. Just had to have the other Rottie done so looks like Pet Plan may be ejecting us before too long!! I do look after my dogs by the way but they always seem to end up at the vets!!

be interested to see how they justified that one. no wonder insurance companies are putting our premiums up with bills like that!

It cost us about £120 to have Bes knocked out and x-rays taken of her leg - they took two shots at different angles, that included her being in all day and the consultation afterwards - they even emailed them to me:

I find them fascinating

I did Quail last year for her hip score it was £70 in total. I didn't use my local vets as there's was over £100 mark.(my best mate is the manager at local vets!) I used their light board to pic the xray!
I travelled to a vet that vets the police dogs & he was really good. I went with a friend who's lab was a show lab so weighed a little more & think her's was £15 more than mine.

I think those are some expensive X.rays your doggie had

Phoned the vet and they said it would be around £130 - £140 depending on dog size. And Cindy is a midget dog so will cheaper end. That also includes the BVA cost though, as well as the sedation/GA and x-rays.

i think those xray charges are absolutely horrific, verging on daylight robbery!!! the rest of it is fine, but i cannot believe they charged you that much for rads. honestly, i wasn't joking when i said our initial xray fee is £30 and then £20 for each additional plate and i am smack bang in the middle of one of the the most expensive counties in the country, working for the only tier 3 vet hospital in the area - our prices are the most expensive around.
