I had some x-rays done of my horses last year with a different vets practise to my normal one, i did this because they have a digital x-ray machine my usual practise doesnt.
The 2nd horse we x-rayed the vets where going to arrange for there dentist to look at them & proceed from there.
This never happened & 6 months later i ended up calling in my own dentist, he did need to see the x-rays. I was promised by vets they would be sent via email but nothing.

It will be a year in May & i have asked around 6 times now for the x-rays being told every excuse under the sun.
Im convinced they have been lost, now i know i do not own the right to the x-rays. But if they are needed for treatment what then?

I have no idea what to do, apart from get them re-done?

Go in to the practice and ask for them in person - with a memory stick in hand so they can pop them on there for you.

Don't leave without them.

Last year I had XRays taken of my cobs feet at a massive unexpected cost. I asked for copies on a disc, and was told that after they ahd done mine the machine went wrong and they had been lost. I acually work for a company who sell and maintain digital XRay units to hospitals and vets and was told by an engineer that they could be retrieved at cost as they will be in the unit or laptop it was connected to, but my vets didn't want to go down that route and the offered to re do for free.
It was such a palava getting the first set (took ages)and I was so cross with them for just snapping away and not informing me of the cost, not showing me any and just giving me a vague diagnosis and then 'losing 'them that I just changed vets.
I think they didn't want me to have them as if I asked for a second opinion it would not have been the same diagnosis.
You could ask them to send you a disc because they may be having difficulties sending by email due to the file size of each xray. Tell them you will call in and collect it - no excuse then.

The file size is not big. I've had x-rays emailed with no problem.

I think you will find that although you have paid for x rays, that don't belong to you as you have actually paid for the diagnosis. The vets have a duty of care to keep all medical records up to date and allow you access to them though.

ditto, my vets normally give you a disk on the day apparently but my vet broke the computer ;) and it wasn't communicating properly with itself. Got them emailed a couple of days later when they'd had a man in to sort it out  :D.

OP I would go visit and stay until they had resolved the problem, that is a long time! You didn't have them done for a diagnosis you had them so that you dentist could treat appropriately.

Thanks all for the advice, it's a real pain I have my dentist due again next month & really need these x-rays.
I will try by phone one more time, going to there place is a bit impractical as they aren't very close at all, there is another reason why it wouldn't work also but if I said on here people may recognise the vet practise.
