X-rays of prospective purchase. If they showed something untoward...

...and you decided not to buy, what would you do with the x-rays?
Keep them or give them to owner?
Personally, I'd hang on to them. If owner wants some x-rays he can have them done himself. What do you think?

I'd give them to the owner; they'd be no use to me.

I would give them to the owner, they are no use to you and the horse may well benefit from you handing them over. I dont see the point in two people having to pay for xrays when one set will suffice.

Thing is, the current owner is a dealer.Or to be more precise, he brings on and sells lots and lots of horses every year. This is a rather expensive horse. Or he was.

Oh no, I'm not buying. Someone I know is. They're rather gutted!

the vet should actually hang on to them. Although you have paid for them, the vet has to hang on to them for at least 7 years (i think!) as a legal obligation. They actually belong to the vet.

we take xrays at work and sometimes give them to the owner if the farrier or another vet (for referral) needs them. Otherwise, for legal reasons, we have to store them.

Now THAT makes sense and in fact now that I think about it, I remember that happening to a friend of mine in the UK. However, this being Argentina, if you pay for the x-rays you get to keep 'em. My friend is going to give them to neddy's current owner.

Hmm not sure how true that is, to be honest. When I sold one of my horses in the UK, I had him x-rayed as he had a blemish and I wanted to be sure of what it was before I advertised him. I was given the x-rays by my vet and once I found the perfect home for my chap, I passed them on to his next owner; with the blessing of my vet.

Same thing a few years ago with a little mare I had, again she had a blemish and before I sold her, I had her x-rayed; same vet gave me her x-rays to keep and pass along with the pony.

Rossdales gave me x-rays of PF's foot (from when she had a nasty abcess) on a floppy disk (was a while back) but kept the originals.

I ADORE looking at x-rays even though I rarely know what's going on in them!!
