just been told i am going xc on sunday.

Need another bit for horse, plain snaffle is no good, needs something a little stronger. So will have to go to tack shop.

Prob limited stock, so thinking about pelham or dutch gag.

Or i have a copper roller snaffle at home.

Any ideas?

i would recommend a dutch gag - you can find them in most places - i live in bleak west wales & you can manage to find one here!!

it gives you more leverage & really helped me with my pony.
he works in a loose ring snaffle/hanging cheek snaffle(depending what mood he's in!) for dressage & then a dutch gag for jumping & they are perfect

Didn't you post about this on Tuesday? I thought you weren't going anymore...

Anyway:
Copper roller snaffle will help stop them gripping the bit.
Waterford snaffle will help with leaning.
Dutch gag gives more leverage and raises the head

Pelham will lower the head and 'tuck in' the nose - useful if your horse tanks off with head in the air into a fence.

You need to think about what your horse does then pick a bit to counteract that, not just pick somehting because you have heard it is stronger. My horse is impossible to jump in a snaffle, too strong with his head too high and runs through your hands in a dutch gag, and very polite and nice in a pelham.
