Hello. I'm looking to get some new xc boots for Wookie, he currently has some NEW equine fleece XC boots, with good strong strike pad etc and I really like them, but I am worried after reading posts about tendons cooking, and think I may invest in some air cooled ones for summer events etc and ones which don't hold water.

Are there any recomendations, I think there are some called airflow something but don't know who makes them.
I have also looked at a pair by premier equine which sound good but are only £23.00, why? I have never had boots from this company, are they any good?

Any help/advice gratefully received.

Goodness, I did read a bit of that actually, but it all got a bit carried away and now I have forgotten what everyone said. I'd just like a slightly lighterweight boot really, still with good/as much protection, and possibly 'air cooled' if there is such a thing.

Prolite of NEW tendon boots in front - dont hold water and are fine - I havent had "cooked" tendons.
and behind I have the Premier Equine event boots - they arent air cooled but appear to be brilliant!!! soft and no hard seems - protective but flexible where they need to be and at under £30 a pair!!! need I say more?

I like the premier equine ones and will look very closely at the Air cooled ones as G could do with some new front ones....only thing thats makes me squirm re. the "holey" boots is the thought grit etc could get in..... I like the look of the new equilibrium ones......

The Premier ones are meant to be fab; Premier Equine are just really good value for money. You can also get more expensive ones - the best are supposed to be the Dalmar Eventer ones but they don't fit all types of horse. Equilibrium also do some very similar to the Dalmars, but I've not yet heard of anyone who has had them to try out yet!
I'm a bit of a tendon-freak so I am all for air cooled boots etc!

I saw a catalogue with the Dalmar boots in, rather liked them. Although my boys aren't your standard TB leg type. I've found that a problem with boots - event boots tend to be geared towards the TB type leg =/
Maybe that's just me ^^

Thanks for the replys guys, Yes seems to be lots of votes for Premier Equine, I have the catalouge and couldn't believe the prices when I just looked! But seems they are actually favourable.

I have been told the Dalmar are very good and my local tack shop sells alot per week to eveters/racers, but I haven't seen them yet.

So I will double check the P.E ones, Dalmar, Prolite and Equilibrium, hopefully I'll find some good ones with the right sort of protection. Im still amazed at the price of the P.E ones!

I just spoke to the lady at PE and she was ever so helpful!!
What you've got to remember Milz is that Dalmar etc, you're paying for the name - like Ariat clothing. Plus also, PE probably make enough on the boots to make it viable, but don't make a huge profit margin - I like companies like that

I have the Dalmar event boots in front (were bought for me as a present), and love them!! Up til then i had NEW fleece lined ones, and the Dalmar ones fit my horse much better!! Wouldn't buy anything else now for fronts.

I have the Premier Equine boots behind, the extreme event ones, and also think that are brill. They have the tough cannon bone protector down the front, but are lightweight and flexible to be comfy for the horse!

Hmm mines an ISH and wouldn't say he has chunky legs, but would be bigger that an TB's so I will have to look for some that fit well, the NEW ones I have do, but they are very fleecy and I worry about his legs in the summer heat and the fact they probably hold quite a bit of water!

Oh right, I love the fact I have lots of useful replies on this subject, I thought it'd be a bit boring. I shall have to do some research when I get a chance, to see which will be best, I have to go back to work in a bit!.

I just rang the lady at PE about sizings M! I've got two 16.3s that are ISH, with more bone than a TB but not heavy's. She said go large front AND behind, and if I find they're too big, I have 14 days to send them back, and they'll send another med set through

. I'm about to order mine

I love the fact that my GCSE money is going on the horses, not much needed clothing!

So if i have some MW NEWs on the back that just seem to fit...do you think i'd want larges or mediums? He's only just 16hh but got more bone than my TB, hence the needing new boots? I wonder if larges would be too long?

Sizing is tricky!!

I have the dalmar and they are fantastic. Better all round protection than the pe and have a mesh in the holes to prevent grit unlike pe. Depends how clumsy the horse can be! Mine needs the Dalmar when overexcited

I love my PEs, look the business and they have the strike pads. Never had hot legs after unlike sports sling type boots which seem very stifling. My 17hh+ has mediums which wrap nearly twice around yet he isnt that light of leg.

i use prolites in front, and PE extreme event for behind. i also have the PE air cooled for use in the field. I love the PE boots, would highly recommend them. fabby protection, and i dont think protection is compromised because of the price

I have just purchase the PE aircooled ones, they are fab. Quality is comparable to NEW at approximately half the price.

I would have LOVED the dalmars, but have only just started doing more xc events this year, and even next year if I get to everything I want to, it'll just be 4 BE intro's and a couple of RC ode's so really could not justify spending that on boots i'll use maybe 8 times in the year.

I have spoken to the PE person and the ultimate competition boots are discontinued but they still do the air cooled ones.

I have looked at some prolite and equilibrium ones but im not that struck, they look quite flimsy, and the Dalmars look farily similar to the PE's but at £75 front and back.

PE said they have a new catalouge of products coming out in spring, but im quite keen to buy some now for his last few events, will they be bringing something new and amazing out? Or should I go for it and get the air cooled xc boots for now at a good price, if they bring out even better ones guess I could push the boat out and have a spare pair as the prices are so good.

Sorry for rambling, what do you all think, I want to get the right ones!

I have the A/C PE ones.

If your ned has over 8" of bone then you'll need large.

I took the advice from the lovely lady at PE and she was right!

For the amount of eventing (local unaff Ode / XC schooling and Sponsored rides etc) these have done just the job. I am very happy with them.
