I would like as many suggestions as possible for XC jumps for a livery yard. The course will be 1 mile long and is a 6 metre headland around a 50 acre crop field. It is having a huge bank built for steps, and it also has an area of trees, which will have jumps through.

I don't want to spend a fortune on wood right now (the yard's costing enough) but we have hundreds of logs, tyres and telegraph poles. I would like to build a few jumps out of wood though. We can also dig ditches.

So what jumps would you want and what height range? 2'3" - 3'6" ?

Thanks

We have some good ones, tree trunks, tractor tyres, logs, telegraph poles, bank jump into next field, possibilities are endless!

I think our highest is about 3ft 6

lots of lovely big-ish logs to get everyone going!
log pile of smaller logs.
things with sloping front, make it nice and easy for horses to judge.
tyres. (can always paint alternate ones, to make them look more interesting!)
tiger trap.
little scraped out ditch in front of tyres or something quite easy.
plastic barrels or big plastic drainage pipe, if you've got any lying around!
sheep feeder.
semi-skinny, with arms (v shape, but the other way, to get horse and rider used to jumping skinnies but with arms to help)
water splash if pos.
road crossing. getting carried away now...

That is really good advice Shilasdair, I know the courses I prefer to go and school over are ones where they have clusters of fences so I can pop several and jump out of a rythm without having to pull up and go back, find that frustrating and not good for the horses.
