XC Jumps

Try E bay...search for 'jumps' every few days & sort the list by price with the most expensive first... There are several people making them who post regularly. Might give you some ideas even if you don't buy any!!

Tyres, Wood Pallets, barrels, and old unusuable square bales of hay make good jumps!

not sure sorry. if you have the resources, there one of them small booklet type books that SHOWS you how to make them. you know the once with the hand drawing on the front?? they have one for bridles and saddles and point of the horse and that. they do one, i think its called Cross Country jumping, or solmething like that, can't remember, when i next go to the saddlers i'll take a look for you

As has been said...car tyres with a pole through them. Tyres are readily available.
You can cut a pallet in half & then put them end to end & stuff them with twigs to make a brush fence.
Damaged pallets can be dismantled & used to make all manner of fillers.
Large drums can be laid end to end. They can also be stood up & you can buy or make the hanging cups to hang off them to put poles on.
Just use your imagination, scrounge wood/ logs and mess about & you'll come up with ideas.

I made a few in summer (and they are still in one bit, despite about 50 sheep, 7 bullocks and two horses trying to break them so I am very proud of them even if they are naff!) Only have photos of one.

Tyre jump - you need a good thick pole in the middle to hold the weight of all that rubber and then thread the tyres on.

All this is is a telegraph pole about 10ft long, leaning on a rockpile to the left and tied to an old gatepost (railway sleeper) and with a shorter bit of telegraph pole dug into the ground and tied on the left.

Excuse the blue tub, there is bedrock 6" underneath the grass in that field and so I will have to cement the post in when I get

It's quite good as the ground drops away after this fence and then after a couple of strides drops away again so I want to make it into a combination

I also started making a portable pheasant feeder (although they must be big pheasants becuase it's about 2'6" high, but when I finish I will post pictures!

Just make the most of the land layout you have and any old wood etc. you can get hold of. Once it's a jump and you creosote them they blend in anyway!

Good luck!

We have a log pile, its starting to rot away so I piled the ends up and put a rustic pole on top. As mentioned garages love to give you tyres other wise they have to pay to dispose of them. Tractor tyres can be cut in half (quite hard) and have the ends dug into the ground to make a lochness monster type jump. My OH joined together tyres tread to tread ooooo with nuts and bolts and put feet on the two ends, you could vary the size by using car or 4x4 tyres. Old land drainage pipes tied together with rope in triangle are also good. I try to stick to things I can move when the field is topped.

We spent our summer making loads of xc jumps - we were replacing all our fencing so had materials in abundance!! We have a table, a chair, a couple of gates, and a hayrack.. just made using our imagination really i guess - we also inspected a couple of our local cross country courses a little bit more carefully when we were walking courses this year to give us some ideas!! We have a copy of the book Bizzie Lizzie is talking about - they are the Threshold picture guides, and you can get them online at amazon etc. Another good source of ideas are other peoples cross country pictures, and there are websites that show cross country jumps - google 'cross country jumps' or 'hunter trial courses' and see what you come up with. Good Luck!!
