I am just filling in an entry form for my first ever XC competition

What sort of thing do people put in the notes for commentator? Can I just leave this blank? I don't want to draw any more attention to myself than I have to!

I am useless at these :) but i just put my colours, how long i've own my horse, if it was my first time at venue (or certain height etc) and my what my full time job is because it's slightly unusual (for a woman).

If anyone has any sponsors, they could try and get them called out over the tannoy too i guess.

People use this to tell the commentator a bit about themselves or the horse. Some people use this to mention the names of their sponsors. I tend to leave mine blank too..!

Intrigued.. whats your job?

Last time I just put that it was only his third run xc, they only used it while they were waiting for you to start but I'm rubbish at knowing what to put on them.

Al has who Reg is owned by, he's an ex-racer, he won the RoR Best All rounder award last year, she's in the NNPC and she's currently doing her A2s and she's taking a gap year (or 2!) when they're all done and dusted and she can't wait!

Sharon usually has that I own Reg, used to compete him and why I don't now, she also mentions his love of donuts :p

Just noticed that the poster above is talking about an eventer called Reg, all the best ones are :p

The one time I have done it I put the usual information - height, experience, colours, competing for 'x' riding club etc.. I also put that 'he isn't the fastest horse on the course today, but is hoping for a clear having been placed with one refusal last year', and that 'he is a real all rounder, having spent yesterday dressed as an elephant doing fancy dress with my 6 year old daughter'. Unfortunately both fancy dress and ODE were cancelled due to weather, so I didn't get it read out. Fingers crossed for this year (still got costume!).

Thanks everyone. I get the idea now.

I have a boring job as an IT Project Manager but this has given me some naughty thoughts about making things up to sound interesting. I could claim to be related to someone famous or make-up an interesting job or something. OK I'm getting carried away, perhaps I'll just leave it blank. :D

I filled out my first one the other day and put xc colours, how long we've been a partnership for, and MASSIVE thanks to the owners and my parents for their help and support :D

Always put something about you and the horse - just think what a SH** job commentating is if you haven't got any information - So give them something to say and lighten up their day!!!!!!!

i normally put something about being a full time vet, having had Monty 2yrs and the fact that he loves jumping but isn't so keen on dressage or something to that effect. This yr also put that am aiming for Grassroots Champs.

Write the notes yourself !!!!
Sound obvious but last year I went round Aston-le-Walls on my YO's horse and she wrote that I was a Pole Dancer ! I had a very strange man following me with a camera and I didn't know why until she told me - he must of been pretty desperate as I am so not the shape to be hanging upside down on a pole in tassels and a thong :)

At a team event once, one club had obviously made up the comments for their team. It said one was an avid basket weaver, another a swedish porn star etc. It was very amusing!

Lol at these. Genius :p

As a commentator, can I just say that the more notes the better! If the course is really busy we might not be able to read it all out, but it makes our job so much more interesting if we can talk about your sponsor/job/horse/hobbies/goals for the season. If the course is quiet, there is nothing more worrying than lots of blank slips! And don't get me started on unpronounceable names ....

Ha. I loved commentating when we had extra notes. I did have a few friends with excellent senses of humour, so I felt free to make up whatever I liked if they didn't fill it in. One girl had a steadily more complicated story about being a pro-wrestler and chicken herder that got added to at each show. It got to the point where people she didn't know would come up to her to ask about her career choices... ;)

I just write what colours i'm wearing. That J is an ex-racehorse, it's our 2nd/3rd/4th event or whatever and that last year we did 2 BE's, that the aim for my last event was to get less time faults XC.
I haven't written anything personal about me though.
My non-horsie OH the first time I went XC at an event thought the commentator was amazing. He said 'wow, I didn't realise they knew so much about you!! Are you famous??' HA HA HA, I said no sadly not and that they ask you to put notes for the commentator when you enter. Before he knew that, he was dead impressed lol.
