Hello!!

Due to the beautiful weather I was thinking of packing ponies, picnic and the OH and spending a day somewhere on Sunday -so has anyone got any recommendations for where to go? We're on the Kent/Sussex borders and although we're happy to travel it would be nice to be reasonably close - I've looked up Brightling Park, which looks lovely, but does anyone have any contact/website details for them? A course with a bit of variety height wise would be good - I'm on a little fluffy pony but the OH is used to 5ft plus hedges out hunting so needs a little bit more of a challenge than me to keep him interested!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Emily xx

Just looked at Nursteads website but it doesn't say...

Chilham Castle looks lovely but I am worried it may be a bit far away... may try convincing the OH though cos it does look gorgeous, and excately what I want...

Has anyone been to Hale Farm House?

Nurstead's event is on soon so the course probably won't be open.
Is Bell Yew Green open near Tunbridge Wells? I did an event there last year and there was a good variety of heights over interesting terrain.

The course at Nurstead is open for a while after the event, so in a week.
Brightling Park does hire out as went there last year to school round-should be website-try in Google-under Brightling Racing
Coombelands, Pulborough, mear Billingshurst is lovely, but might be too far for you? Good water, range if BE fences, and though ground will be hard, has sand take-off and landing. Contact 01798872296 £25 per horse
Hale is OK-in Chiddingly-good water but ground variable -probably rock solid now-steps, ditches, drps etc from 1ft9 to 3ft6 approx £15 per horse-contact details: 01825 872619

Thank you for all the ideas!!

Paris08, as you've been to Brightling Park, what is it like? What jumps etc.?

Coombelands does look lovely but I think there is an event there this weekend, so maybe another weekend :-)

Any other ideas? ;-)

Lodge Fram - Matfield?

They have a website if you google them - something like lodgefarm.co.uk

Would search for it, but on cr@ppy hotel slow dial up (which they're chargin me an extortionate rate for too

Nurstead - from what I saw mostly biggish (PN fences).

Brightling - a good variety (I did a 2'6" class there and they have lots of affiliated fences).

Lodge Farm and Bells Yew Green both have a reasonable variety too and they are both not too far from Tunbridge Wells.

Lodge Farm have a website

Brightling park is a really lovely course, fences are 2'6'' to about 3'9''/4', a wide range of fences including 3 waters, ditches, combinations etc. It was £15 per horse when I went.

Hale Farm is quite nice (although not as nice as Brightling) fences are 1'9'' to 3'6'', there is water, ditches, drops, steps etc. £15 per horse.

There is Highfields Farm in Mayfield which is ok, fences are only 2'3'' to 2'9'' so maybe too small. There is also Higham Farm in Bells Yew Green and Lodge farm in Matfield which I have heard are both nice although I haven't been to either of them myself.

Coombelands in Pulborough, West Sussex is lovely, fences are 2'3'' to 3'3'', a wide variety including a fantastic water, steps and lots of ditches. £25 per horse. Probably quite far from you though?

Went to Brightling the other day with Prudunce. None of the waters were jumpable as they were either drained, being repaired or for the Advanced course, closed as there were horses grazing in the field the other side.

Not many fences under 2ft 9"-3ft available, but the views were gorgeous and there's also the gallops to hire if you're feeling energetic.

Higham Farm in Bells Yew Green is open. Fences from 2ft 3" - 3ft 3" with the odd one or two at 3ft 6".

I haven't been to The Hale for a few years so can't really comment on that one.

Nurstead won't be open as they've got an Event next weekend.

I think Lodge Farm in Matfield is only open Weds and Saturdays.

Other than that, East Bysshe near Lingfield/Godstone is lovely, or why not box to Alfriston and go for a gallop on the Downs?
