Can anyone let me know of any XC schooling courses that are suitable for a total novice horse that are within 90 mins of us. I know about the following:

Winkleigh
Pontispool
Stockland Lovell

What I am looking for ideally is a more of a schooling field rather than a course as I have an ex racer who needs to see loads of jumps - BUT definitely does not need to have a run in between fences as that is really winding him up and he has spent 6 months unlearning how to race and remain chilled. With a schooling field I can string a course of jumps together and keep him mind on the jumps until he has gained enough experience to tackle most jumps he comes across and gallop under control

the grange XC course isn't open. And i understand that the Weigesmaras place is only available if you have a lesson from Lucy or Jade and at the moment I don't want to waste their time or my money. Not sure where Chyverton is. Will search on the web. Thanks

what about newton ferrers xc or there is one at california cross...modbury way

we are just building a 60 x 40 sandschool which should be ready in a months time...you are more than welcome to rent it and make your own course....(plymouth area)

i would have thought chyverton would be too far, its beyond bodmin, although a nice course
erm cant think of any others really. went to california cross a few years back, maybe contact south pool pony club, as they hold events there. smallish jumps, but not all in one field.
tbh ive been having the same thoughts as you...where is there to go in the westcountry?and theres not that many places, i always end up at winkliegh

I have loads of show jumps and an arena and he has been schooled over show jumps - it is really XC jumps on grass I need - will have a look at newton ferrers and the clifornia cross - so thanks for that.

Whiddon farm is rubbish, I wouldn't go there.

Pontispool or Winkleigh are the best around and Blackdown hills is good too.

California cross has schooling days and their phone number as advertised in Fridays paper is 01548 821200 but I don't know what its like.

bodiniel farm bodmin , nice course , lots of variety and a large field with jumps in , 10 squid, stay as long as you like , i,m a livery there and if you come, say hi i,ll make you a cappachino after lol

there is also Cuckoo's nest which is nice easy basic course but fair few jumps but to be honest if you want a load in ones place I would say pontispool if they haven't cleared the first field but they tend to be tiny or Blackdown hills which has a fair number including the water and ditches in the first main field.
