sorry for the lateness of post
so last sunday trundled off to tyrella for the derby thingy we were holding (more like a 2 phase really) after weeks of creosoting and stripping poles and building xc fences!
so i was 7th to go in the 3f3 senior - my first time in a senior class!! i was against joanne jarden and eric smiley!!
so warm up in the field, and merlin is on his toes and was all bunched up- i was waiting for a MASSIVE buck - he is known for them
and we got a series of little pre-big bucks on the spot, and he was still waiting for his big buck, but carry on warming up and start jumping.
then into the sj, and all was going well, until we came to fence 6, which was a riducoulsy tight turn off a corner and which i missed completely, so merlin jumps but smashes through the top pole, and gets tangled up in it (he is notorousily clumsy
) so i end up half off half on, i was tangled around his neck, and my arse was sticking up in the saddle - right in front of the judges box
and in front of joanne jarden (mega
as she then commentated on it later on
) but thanks to my longish legs and his longish neck i scrambled back on and went on to fence 7!!
jump out of the arena into the xc, and he was a little backish offish, but i rode on and jumped them, and fence 4 was a pole 2 strides on a curve to a skinny, which he managed perfectly! then jumped nelson mandelas leap (into mid air - you could hardly see the ground after it!!
then the VERY scary road crossing fence (piccy) which was on the side of a VERY steep hill and then 2 strides after was a pole going up the other hill!!
we were told that it would look right at home on a CIC* course by Ian stark...
but he jumped it straight away
i am a mega proud mummy
then jumped another fence into nothing towards the sea (the tyrella dragon
) and then some more skinnys and a giant parallel! but finished the course well and he was raring to go again!
but the negative side is that i have found that i cannot jump him in a martingale as he leans on it - which could be a slight prob for xc - any suggestions on how i could stop him from leaning on it?
