can anyone tell me if you get penalties for being under the time in the xc section with BE?

I know you get them for being over

Yes you do get higher penalties than if you were over the time.

at intro and pn level if u are faster than 520mpm u get time pen. but other than that u are fine, not sure for novice and about though

Yes it's the same higher up too, I remember once at Weston Park a couple of years ago Matthew Wright got them in an Advanced! Unbelievable!

You have quite a big window to be quicker in (someting like 40 secs?)

something like that. Never had a problem with it above PN, always seem to struggle slightly to get times, and not always trying either!

Yes I got 9 tf faults & Hopetoun & nearly got them at Auchinleck too

At Novice level and above you have a 15 second window. If you are more than 15 seconds under the time then you get penalties. No excuse at Intermediate and above as you wear stop watches.
