Not necessarily to the first question (they are recommended but I have never had them!)

And your hat needs to be to PAS015 standard or equivalent, doesnt necessarily need to be a skull cap

You can't go xc with a peaked hat, you need to go shopping

You will have to get a skull hat, I would go and try lots of hats on I have the same one as you and also fit champion ventair if not their are hundreds of skull hats around.

Simple... get a Charles Owen Skull... it should be a similar shape to the SJ hat you have.
