Looking through some adverts a yard was organsing a massive ride out on Boxing day (not a hunt) and thought that was a lovely idea they would be given mulled wine or warm fruit juice etc

Anyone else doing anything similar??
Do you all dress your horse's up in tinsel etc....

Hopefully I am doing it for the first time this year!! I don't have my own horse and have normally just had to stand by and watch everyone else, or I have shared and the owners want the horse to have a holiday.

This year someone is offering me the ride on their horse at 2 yards. First yard hopefully going out on Christmas eve...mulled wine and mince pies then a good long hack all together. Second yard I will probably just go out by myself covered in tinsel.

I am trying to not buy the christmas horse decorations (bells, boots etc) that I have seen on the Robinsons website...but I may fail....

I share, and I got the Christmas Morning ride! His owner got Boxing Day which was her preference anyway but I am sooo chuffed to be riding on my, ahem, 'own' horse on Christmas Day!

There's only me and one other going out as he is at a private yard so its not going to be a party ride - but I still can't wait.

Something crap will probably happen so I can't ride like another dumping of snow or something....hope not.

Xmas day is the best ride of the year! Hacking in open country you dont see another sole!

Boxing day hunting is a little too much for my horse at the moment (Its too busy for me to relax and let her gallop!!!) :P
So ill follow that on foot - Or just nurse a good hangover ;)

i always hack out xmas day mornin, bout 8am, its amazing how quiet the roads are and how many ppl look out their windows when my horses hoofbeats echo down the streets :D

And just remebered used to ride my late horse out for about 20mins on christmas morning, no one about and lovely to hear the church bells ringing at about 10am.

hated getting up early enough to get pressie opening done, but will miss it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS RIDING EVERYONE XXXXX

I usually do a xmas day and boxing day hack - without tinsel though as my horse has a tinsel phobia - especially the purple stuff! Not sure about this year - dont think i'll have time on xmas day but hopefully should manage boxing day!

We normally have a hack out, stop for some champers then have a whizzy ride back to the yard. However as we've not been able to ride for ages now I'm not sure this will be a good idea this year

Not me I'm afraid, for two reasons:

1) I am on call on Christmas Day and can't go to yard because do not get good signal on my phone so don't always get calls to go out to Cop Shop

2) Bailey isn't backed :D Could try and ride but might end very quickly and painfully... :D

I am off Christmas Eve and Boxing Day so will go up to yard for a Christmassy long rein round the village or lunge ... bit boring but until he is backed...!! :D

Hopefully will be able to report a first Christmas Day hack next year :D

I've never been able to ride on christamas/boxing/new years day. Well, i did ride out on new years day once but once we got off the roads we hit ice and it did not end well :(

So now i don't risk it, and it's always been a bit icy etc around that time. In fact i hardly got to ride at all for 3 months last winter and this year looks set to be the same.

Do you not get any ice etc where you all are??

It is my tradition to take my boy out for a Christmas Hack on Christmas Eve, dressed up in tinsel! I take him through some of the local villages as the little children love to see him with all of his tinsel on! :P I sometimes ride on Christmas Day, but only before Christmas Dinner as I made the mistake one year of schooling after Christmas Dinner! Me and my mum usually go out for a nice hack together on Boxing Day. :)

could be worse! I took mine out on boxing day 2 years ago, me and harry covered in tinsel, harry had a santas hat on and a rude boy in his chavved up corsa still decided to drive into us!

I always do a Xmas eve hack, Finish work half a day then go straight to ride out. Since owing the yard and having full liveries we dont get time to hack out on Christmas day but might try and do a Boxing day hack.
