xray as part of a 5* vetting

Those of you that had xrays done as part your vetting - roughly how much did you pay? (if you don't mind me asking!)

Also, why did you have the xrays done? failed flexion test, personal choice, advised by vet?

my vets charge £75 a plate......chose to have it done for my peace of mind

I had to have Xrays for my insurance. I think it only applies if you are trying to insure a horse over a certain value though. Also gives peace of mind.

I'm probably being totally neurotic here and fully expect to be shot down in flames by some people but am thinking I would have the horse I'm seeing on Sunday xrayed in front if I went ahead with him as he has been known to weave and I'd like the peace of mind that he hadn't done any damage.

Well I'd say if you are having them done in front you might as well pay the extra and have the hinds done to check for DJD or bone spavin etc. Major peace of mind then.

I don't know if it's true but I heard that all warmblood types on the continent tend to be xrayed if they are good quality as spavin/DJD tends to be quite common in the type. (I appreciate your horse may not be a warmblood though!)

ot sure our whole 5* vetting cost approx 300 bit over i think maybe 360 with lots of xrays, about 14 and blood

We used to charge £150 for vetting, £20 for bloods and then xrays depends on the plates etc. Developing etc was about £100, plates from £13.00. Really depends on how many xrays are taken. Speak to your vet they may do some kind of deal
